June 10-11. American Crafts Festival at Lincoln Center

You’ll find beautiful collectibles this weekend. One hundred and eighty master artisans from every region of the United States selected on the basis of quality of workmanship and uniqueness of design, will be at their displays at the Annual Crafts Festival. Columbus Ave at 64th Street.  Saturday Noon to 9pm, Sunday 10am to 7pm.


June 13. Museum Mile Festival.

This is one the best events of the summer, when one mile of Fifth Avenue from 82nd to 105th Streets turns into New York City’s biggest block party, with FREE museum admission to ten world-class museums, including Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Jewish Museum, Museum of the City of New York and the Guggenheim Museum.  Plus music, food, activities for the kids, and more.  Get more details.


June 13-18. New York Philharmonic in the Park 

What’s better than a free concert under the stars followed by fireworks! Grab a picnic blanket and some snacks and head to the city’s parks to hear the New York Philharmonic. The concerts, held in Central Park, Prospect Park, Van Cortlandt Park, Cunningham Park, and the music hall at Snug Harbor in Staten Island vary in programs, featuring music by Bernstein, Gershwin, Dvořák, and more. June 17. Summer Solstice Sunrise Concert at St. John the Divine

Okay early birds. At 4:30 am, the Paul Winter Consort will present its 22nd annual Summer Solstice Celebration with a musical welcome to summer.  Experience a deep listening journey within the awesome space of the largest cathedral in the world. The music begins in total darkness, and proceeds in a continuous flow, emanating from different places in the Cathedral. “Gradually, as the great stained-glass windows begin to illuminate, the light joins the sound to carry us into the first dawning of the summer”, says Paul winter.  Get details and tickets.


June 17. The Coney Island Mermaid Parade

This is one of New York City’s greatest summer events. A celebration of ancient mythology and honky-tonk rituals of the seaside, the Mermaid Parade, the nation’s largest art parade, showcases over 3,000 creative individuals from all over the five boroughs and beyond, opening the summer with incredible art, entrepreneurial spirit and community pride. The parade highlights Coney Island Pageantry based on a century of many Coney parades, celebrates the artistic vision of the masses, and ensures that the summer season is a success by bringing hundreds of thousands of people to the amusement area in a single day.
