So we are giving you a heads up some awesome events this month and next, including some very worthy fundraisers, that you’ll want on your calendars. Like Doodles for Hunger, the free movies at Grand Central and for the writers out there, a chance to pitch your book.


Oct. 19. Grand Central Cinema.

NYC LIFE:  Fundraisers, Calling All Writers, Grand Central MoviesThis is a very cool, all day FREE event at Grand Central Terminal featuring movies and discussions of movies that have been filmed at Grand Central Terminal.  And in the evening, there’s a special screening of North by Northwest featuring Cary Grant’s classic Grand Central getaway scene with Grand Central as your backdrop! Oct. 18. Fundraiser: Stand up for Women Worldwide

The Metro Chapter the US National Committee for UN Women is celebrating their 30th anniversary.  This group that supports UN Women’s advocacy for women worldwide and is a voice for women at the United Nations, is near and dear to the heart of the Head Tomatoes since was president of the chapter for 4 years. The keynote speaker is the very dynamic Dr. Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, Under Secretary General and Executive Director of UN Women.  Get the details.


Nov. 2. Fundraiser: Help Save Lives in Nigeria.

NYC LIFE:  Fundraisers, Calling All Writers, Grand Central MoviesEvery year in Nigeria, 100 million people fall ill from malaria, and 300,000 children and adults die.  Our friends at the When In Need Foundation (WIN) are committed to the fight against malaria.  Their goal is save the lives of the afflicted and a build a malaria-free tomorrow.  WIN is hosted their first in a series of fundraisers to combat Malaria, at Sheraton Hotel in Times Square. Tickets are $100. November 2, 2017 | 6:30 PM – 9:30 PM |Sheraton New York Times Square Hotel | 811 7th Avenue


Nov. 2. Fundraiser: Doodles for Hunger Features Tony Orlando

NYC LIFE:  Fundraisers, Calling All Writers, Grand Central MoviesThis is absolutely one of our favorite charity events of the season. Doodle for Hunger is a fun and exciting auction of signed original works of art by artists, entertainers, athletes, politicians, and business celebrities, like this one by our favorite gossip girl, Liz Smith! The elegant buffet cocktail party at Chelsea Piers is hosted by St. Francis Food Pantries and Shelters and all proceeds from the auction will benefit the St. Francis Food Pantries and Shelters that helping individuals and families in need in the NYC area. This year’s guest of honor of is Joe Piscopo and the musical guest is Tony Orlando.  Get the details.


Nov. 10-12. Calling all Writers. Pitch your Book!

If so, the New York Writers Workshop, an alliance of published authors and professional writers teaching in NYC and across the globe, invites you to their NYWW Pitch Conference: Three days, three editors, three pitches, for writers of fiction, nonfiction, and YA.
