And James Franco and Maggie Gyllenhaal are brilliant in The Deuce, a gritty look at prostitution and the start of porn industry in NYC in the 70s.
If you missed season one, hurry and catch up so you can watch season two. This beautifully filmed series, chronicles Queen Elizabeth’s life, from the 1940s to modern times. Season one starts before Elizabeth becomes queen. It’s a wonderful personal look at life inside Buckingham Palace. It’s not easy being queen. Season two returns on Netflix Dec. 8th.
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel
This just premiered on Amazon and we have already binged on three episodes. This funny and unique series takes place 1958 New York. Midge Maisel’s life is on track- husband, kids, and elegant Yom Kippur dinners in their Upper West Side apartment. But when her life takes a surprise turn, she has to quickly decide what else she’s good at – and going from housewife to stand-up comic is a wild choice to everyone but her. And we love the retro clothes, cars, apartments and the entire late ‘50s vibe. There are eight in the first season, but the great news is it’s been renewed for another ten episodes.
This is not a show for everyone, since it features graphic sex scenes, and lewd language, but it is a very gritty look at New York City in the ‘70s when Times Square was a sewer of crime and prostitution. Starring James Franco and Maggie Gyllenhaal, who are fabulous, The Deuce explores the rough-and-tumble world at the pioneering moments of what would become the billion-dollar American sex industry. Season one available on demand at HBO. Season two has been renewed.
