A Powerful Film, A Powerful Evening
The Three Tomatoes Presented the Premiere American Screening of “En Passant”
May 18, 2016 at the Park Avenue Screening Room
“I’m still marveling at “En Passant,” which I thought was such a thoughtful, artistic way to tell the story of a mother and son trying to maintain some normalcy in the grip of domestic violence. So much to think/talk about there. Should spark some really helpful conversations around the world.”
“Thank you for educating and empowering women and give us all hope.”
The above quotes are just a sampling of the incredible response to our film screening event in NYC. The Three Tomatoes launched its film series last fall, because we know that women “who aren’t kids” have powerful stories to tell, and we need to get more of them behind the camera and in front of the camera. We were delighted to present the first U.S. screening of “En Passant” in NYC on May 18. It’s a powerful short film on domestic violence by female Hungarian filmmaker, Kata Olah.
The statistics on domestic violence are shocking – 1 out of 3 women in the U.S. has been a victim. The film was followed by a panel discussion with the filmmaker and experts in the field of domestic violence. The NYC panel included: Kata Olah, filmmaker, Hope Newton, who went from victim, to survivor to advocate and is actively involved in the non-profit group, Voices of Women Organizing Battered Womens Resource Project ; Kimberly Campbell founder of OM Healing & Wellness who is bringing the healing powers of yoga to victims of domestic violence through the non-profit, Exhale to Inhale, and Beatty Cohan, a renown psychotherapist and relationship expert.
The panel was moderated by Cheryl Benton, The Three Tomatoes, and Merrill Stone, Merrill’s Girls.
SPECIAL THANKS Vic Raimo and V.E. Raimo Brands for the excellent wines and crowd pleaser flavored whiskeys.
