The above quotes are just a sampling of the incredible response to our film screening event in Los Angeles. The Three Tomatoes launched its film series last fall, because we know that women “who aren’t kids” have powerful stories to tell, and we need to get more of them behind the camera and in front of the camera. We were delighted to present the first U.S. screening of “En Passant” in Los Angeles on May 26th. It’s a powerful and exquisite short film subtly revealing the hidden terror of domestic violence by female Hungarian filmmaker, Kata Olah.

The statistics on domestic violence are shocking – 1 out of 3 women in the U.S. has been a victim. The evening started with the charming and gallant LA Hungarian Consul General, Laszlo Kalman, addressing the attendees. The film was received with tears, stunned silence and sincere applause.

The screening was followed by a panel discussion with the filmmaker and passionate and articulate experts in the field of domestic violence. The Los Angeles panel included: Kata Olah, the filmmaker, Judy Gordon, Director of Education, “Rainbow Services” which provides shelter, education, legal and emotional support, case management, counseling and medical services to victims of domestic violence; and Avigal Horrow, Volunteer & Outreach Coordinator, “1736 Family Crisis Center” shelter and outpatient services for domestic violence survivors, runaway and homeless youth, low-income people, persons in crisis. The information, statistics and facts presented by the panelists were eye-opening and shocking to say the least.

The panel was moderated by Debbie Zipp, The Three Tomatoes, and Ann Voorhees Baker , founder and producer of Women At Woodstock an online community of women 50 +.
