LA LIFE: Skyspace, Garden Party, Wine, Design
Boy oh boy gals there is a lot happening in LA this week tomatoes! You can celebrate the long-awaited opening of the Skyspace Observation Deck. You can also ring in the onset of summer at the classy Norton Simon Museum. Dwell is hosting tours of 2 unique homes that will tickle your fancy. And The Barnsdall Park Friday Evening Wine Tastings is starting up again.
June 25. Skyspace Opening
I’m sure many of you tomatoes, like me, have been anticipating the opening of the much-talked about OUE Skyspace Observation Deck adorning the top of the US Bank tower. Well ladies, Saturday DTLA is having a FREE all-day blow out block party with live performances, beer garden and food trucks to celebrate the opening of California’s tallest open-air observation deck. Tickets to the panoramic, 360-degree views of Los Angeles are available for the opening as well. Wow! It’s not just for tourist’s ladies.
Visitors to Skyspace are guided through a multi-dimensional, interactive experience, featuring unobstructed views, dynamic design and surprise thrills like the fully enclosed glass slide affixed to the side of the US Bank Tower 1,000 ft. above the streets of DTLA. Oh me oh my! Are you that daring tomatoes?
June 24-26. Design Festival
The Dwell on Design LA is America’s largest design event, and of course, it in is our City of Angels ladies. Curated by the editors of Dwell magazine at the LA Convention Center, this fest of modern design and architecture has something for everyone from the professional to the amateur. However, my favorite is their home tours that they are hosting around the city during the event.
Dwell on Design features a showroom of more than 350 brands of the finest wares chosen by the DoD’s expert team, with educational opportunities, a plethora of exhibitions, conferences with over 100 speakers 40 onstage programs and more than 2,000 super cool modern home furnishings. And with tiny homes all the rage there will be a tiny prefab luxury home on display in case you are considering a simpler lifestyle tomatoes.
July 1– September 2. Barnsdall Wine Tasting
Summer in LA is made all the more enjoyable during the cooler evening temps with a beautiful view outside and a glass of wine. And Friday Night Wine Tastings at Barnsdall Park definitely provides a perfect summer evening with samplings from Silverlake Wine, food trucks nearby and a sunset to die for. The summer-long series is actually a fundraiser for this magnificent city park and, as I said, a great way to start celebrating our Independence Day and to do good tomatoes.
I’m giving you a heads-up ladies that these wine tastings sell out fast because not only are they a special experience but very reasonably priced. New to the tasting event this year is The Cheese Store of Silverlake, which is also sponsoring the event and Lyft is partnering with the Barnsdall Park Foundation to provide discounted rides to the wine tasting. There will be a brand-new merchandise table with Barnsdall-centric swag available for purchase and if you want to take a tour of Frank Lloyd Wright’s Hollyhock House you can do so at an additional cost. This event supports the Park’s capital projects, art programs, historic renovations and gallery exhibitions. Sipping wine for a great cause is always delightful tomatoes.
June 25. A Night in Focus Garden Party
What tomato doesn’t like to don a pretty hat, an airy summer frock and pleasure one’s self by spending time in a picturesque and soothing sculpture garden? It is definitely my cup of tea. Well, The Norton Simon Museum , known around the world as one of the most remarkable private art collections ever assembled, is the host of this delightful outdoor gathering. Focus on that me-ladies!
And here’s the best part my ladies…the garden party is totally free with the price of admission to the museum. So why not take full advantage and arrive early to check out some of the Museums gallery exhibitions and then extend your Museum experience to outdoors. Besides sipping champagne, drawing supplies will be available if you are moved to sketch and you can discover the art of tea blending while listening to music, enjoying the garden and watching the sunset. Perfect!
