We love that you tomatoes are so passionate about important causes. Today we’re highlighting three wonderful events – one is helping to shelter and feed our neighbors, another is building a culture of peace through young people around the world, and the third is bringing women and girls together for a powerful summit. We have another must see cabaret show – Gay Marshall at Pangea! And we’ve got the scoop on ice skating, Danny Meyers, and prohibition.

Ice Skating and Danny Meyer at Bryant Park

Woo hoo tomatoes!  The ice skating rink at Bryant park officially opens on October 29th.  And you know the pop up glass restaurant near the rink?  Well great news, it’s now being run by Danny Meyer.  Yep.  Lunch will be under $20 and dinner under $30.  This is one of our favorite holiday and winter spots!!

Chumley’s to Reopen at Long Last

For years, this prohibition speakeasy in the West Village that has no name outside and a secret entrance, as long been the worst kept secret in NYC.  Famous for its literary crowd that in the day included Edna St. Vincent Millay John Steinbeck, John Dos Passos, F. Scott Fitzgerald and Hemmingway. In recent years, it was a fun pub stop that up until fairly recently even had sawdust on the barroom floor.  Well after 9 years of being shuttered it reopens on Tuesday.  Supposedly there will be a focus on the food, which was not a big consideration in the past, and sadly the “secret” courtyard entrance can no longer be used, but the main door will still be unmarked at its secret 86 Bedford address.  We looking forward to checking it out.

Oct. 18. A Little Paree in NYC

Actress and singer, Gay Marshall (CATS, A Chorus Line), brings her new show, Gay’s Paree, to Pangea this fall. Her real-life experiences of singing all over Paris (to varying degrees of delight and misery) unfold through songs by Aznavour, Boris Vian, Francis Lemarque, Dave Frishberg, Brel, and Piaf in both French and English. Marshall’s own English adaptations make this show a joy for Francophiles, whether you speak French or not. “An enchanting performer.” – The New York Times.  Get tickets.

Oct. 28. Be a Peacemaker Champion

We attended this awards luncheon last year at the United Nations, and it was an unforgettable afternoon.  You will get to meet young people from around the world who entered their films (1-5 minutes) on what Peace in the Streets means to them in the Peace in the Streets Global Film Festival (PSGFF).  This worldwide campaign connects the youth of the world through film.  Meet this year’s winners and watch the extraordinary films produced through their eyes.  We promise your eyes will not be dry. Nov. 3. Doodle for Hunger

This is absolutely one of our favorite charity events of the season. Doodle for Hunger is a fun and exciting auction of signed original works of art by artists, entertainers, athletes, politicians, and business celebrities, like Tom Hanks and Donald Trump! The elegant buffet cocktail party at Chelsea Piers is hosted by St. Francis Food Pantries and Shelters and all proceeds from the auction will benefit the St. Francis Food Pantries and Shelters that helping individuals and families in need in the NYC area. This year’s guest of honor of Olympia Dukakis and the musical guest is Tony Danza. Get the details.

Nov. 5. The Brave Summit

Kudos to our friend Stacy Radin, founder of the non-profit Unleased, for putting together what promises to be an incredible one-day forum that will bring generations of women and girls together for a one-day forum with leaders, experts, and scholars to DRIVE a cultural change and ignite your ability to break barriers and make a difference in your community. The Brave Summit is uniquely designed to bring us all together to have an open, honest, and unfiltered dialogue about the issues women face, igniting power, passion and purpose.
