Size Has Nothing to Do with Being Stylish

style adviceYou’re going to hit the gym every day.

This is the year you’ll lose the weight that is driving you crazy and keeping you from changing your look.

Sound familiar?

New Year’s resolutions sound so promising and start with good intentions, but, yada, yada, yada.

If you think that dropping pounds will be the solution to your “I have nothing to wear” daily declaration, I am sorry to be so blunt; but you’re wrong.

You may be thinking what does she know, but based on my 11 years of wardrobe styling experience, size is never the answer to being stylish.

I have clients ranging from size 2 to 20 and I’m telling you that being thinner does not mean clothes fit better, shopping will be a breeze and choosing what to wear will be easy and fun.

if the colors, style and fit are wrong for your shape, age, career or lifestyle, skinny doesn’t mean looking and feeling confident. Wearing clothes that are right for you in terms of color, style and fit will make you look and feel like a million bucks, no matter what size you or your clothes may be.

So here are a few tips to get you to change how you look at, well how you look.

  1. If you don’t like the clothes you have in your closet and/or how you look in them, stop shopping at the same stores.
  2. Break your all black habit, and experiment with some color. See what brings out a sparkle in your eyes.
  3. Try on some clothes that fit you comfortably vs squeezing into a size you want to be. I always say, that a woman gets a compliment on how she looks and not based on the number printed on the label.
  4. Don’t shop for clothes when you feel desperate and frenzied. Odds are whatever you buy during such shopping sprees, end up sitting in your closet unworn, and sadly unloved.

Try one or all of these tips, and you’ll make this year be the one where you lose the self-inflicted frustration you’ve been carrying around much longer than those extra pounds.
