FREE Shakespeare in the Park is back, and first up is Julius Caesar, Shakespeare’s play of politics and power, last seen in the Park 17 years ago. Rome’s leader, Julius Caesar, is a force unlike any the city has seen. Magnetic, populist, irreverent, he seems bent on absolute power. This free summer concert series brings the sounds of live jazz, ragtime and stride piano to Bryant Park. Stop by the bright green piano at the base of the William Cullen Bryant Statue to hear tunes from talented musicians, weekdays from 12:30 to 2:30pm. Select performances throughout the series will also feature sing-alongs and tap dancers. Pianists include Jon Weber, host of NPR’s Piano Jazz, and Grammy-nominated jazz performer Sue Maskaleris. Free Walking Tours of the Garment District
Explore New York City’s Garment District during this one-and-a-half-to-two-hour tour, led by Mike Kaback. You might visit a private showroom, a sample sale, Mood Designer Fabrics and more, all while learning about the neighborhood’s historic background and importance. The tour—which starts at 10am on weekdays and 2pm on Sundays at the northeast corner of Seventh Avenue and West 39th Street—is free, but reservations are required; you can make them by emailing mikesnyctours@yahoo.com.
