Seven Summertime Style Essentials
Summer is finally here, and with it comes well-deserved vacations, beautiful sunny weather, and a palpable sense of excitement. Whether you’ve got a relaxing, low-key getaway planned this season, or you’re anticipating a packed-full calendar of events, you’ll definitely want to look and feel your best along the way. A few great summer staples will help you beat the heat in great style and comfort. Keep reading for my favorite summertime essentials for keeping you cool and collected, no matter the temperature.
The perfect day-to-night dress.
Dresses are the perfect option for summer, because they keep you feeling cool, put together, and feminine despite the heat. And because there are so many great styles to choose from, everyone can find a dress that fits and flatters their unique shape. Finally, a dress is a super-versatile option for busy summer days when afternoon outings can turn into evening barbecues or casual dinners. Look for a versatile style in a shade that you love and step out for the day with confidence and flair.
A cute hat to block the sun.
Sun protection has never been more important than it is today. A great hat will spare you from the sun’s heat and glare—you should never leave home without one! Furthermore, a hat is the perfect “something extra” to top off your outfit. There are many styles available, but I prefer hats that provide more coverage. My current favorites are floppy hats, baseball caps, and roll-up visors, which are convenient for summer travel. Be sure to try on plenty of styles to find one that is flattering and looks great.
A bag with plenty of room.
Roomy purses and totes are great for transporting everything you’ll need during your various summer activities. They effortlessly store your laptop or tablet and other daily necessities, while providing plenty of leftover space for your water bottle, sunglasses, and a scarf or cover-up for cool evening breezes.
Comfy and stylish sandals.
Free your feet at last by slipping into a gorgeous pair of sandals. They are the perfect footwear for strolling the boardwalk, hanging out by the pool, or making the rounds at a barbecue or picnic. And because sandal styles range from casual to ultra-dressy, you’ll be sure to find a suitable pair for every occasion.
An all-white outfit.
You’ll feel chic and classy dressed in head-to-toe white—okay, you can mix it up with a metallic shoe if you wish! Either way, nothing says “summer” or makes you feel like you’ve sailed into Mediterranean waters like light and airy white clothing. This look is surprisingly easy to pull off and keeps you cool when temperatures are rising.
A captivating book.
There’s something about summer that makes me want to pick up a great book and dive right in! Reading is a great way to unwind and take a vacation without ever leaving your home; it’s also great for passing the hours on a long plane ride or while lying on a deserted beach. This summer, I’ve already finished Min Jin Lee’s Pachinko—and I highly recommend it! I’m also looking forward to reading the new page-turner by Paula Hawkins, Into the Water.
Moments of reflection.
Everyone needs quiet reflection to stay healthy and happy. So no matter how busy your summer becomes, remember to set aside some time just for you. Whether you’re relaxing at the beach, the park, or in your own backyard, spend a few minutes in stillness or meditation. Let the healing warmth of the season wash over you and know that peace is always close at hand.
Remember that like all things, summer is fleeting; you have to enjoy it while it’s here because all too soon it will be a sun-washed memory. Be sure to make the most of it! These must-haves will keep you looking great and feeling comfortable wherever your summer takes you.
