LA LIFE: Women’s Voices, Women in Theatre, Butterflies, Vegan Faire

It’s still Women’s History Month and you can celebrate with the League of Women Voters at their event “A Woman’s Voice” celebrating the lives of 4 extraordinary women.  Another great way to celebrate women is LAWTF’s latest highly anticipated festival event “Legacy and Destiny”. And for all you vegan LA Tomatoes, there’s a street food fair this weekend just for you and it happens to be the largest single day Vegan event in the world.  Yum. Yum. Butterflies are a wonderful sign that spring is in full swing and the butterflies are back at the Natural History Museum’s Butterfly Pavilion.

March 25. A Woman’s Voice

LA LIFE: Women’s Voices, Women in Theatre, Butterflies, Vegan Faire

The League of Women Voters  and Five Senses Tastings are partnering to celebrate the lives of four incredible women who embody the spirit and mission of the League and who have given power and voice to the voiceless and disenfranchised: Rosa Parks, Dolores Huerta, Eleanor Roosevelt, and Malala Yousafzai. This special event will use the power of our five senses to explore the lives of each of these women.

Live music, wine, and chocolate will be carefully paired to encourage the purposeful engagement of all our five senses. They had me at wine and chocolate Tomatoes!

Tickets include four flights of boutique wines, hand-crafted chocolates, and live music by professional Los Angeles-based musicians: pianist Jacquelyn Schreiber, guitarist Ines Thomé, and soprano Kala Maxym. Proceeds from ticket sales will help fund unbiased voter information, sponsor candidate debates and discussions on public policy issues, engage youth in civic education, and reach out to underserved communities to encourage their participation in the political process.

The League of Women Voters of Los Angeles, a non-partisan political organization, encourages informed and active participation in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues, and influences public policy through education and advocacy. Five Senses Tastings, a boutique special events company that composes full-sensory tasting experiences elevates guests’ sensory understanding through the purposeful and meaningful engagement of their five senses. Guided by live music and enhanced by flavor, our events diversify our guests’ palates, amplify their sensory world, and encourage harmony among the senses.

Now – September 3.  Butterfly Pavilion

LA LIFE: Women’s Voices, Women in Theatre, Butterflies, Vegan FaireIt’s great news for tomato butterfly lovers! The Natural History Museum has reopened its doors to the Butterfly Pavilion again for the spring and summer season. And there are more species, more flight space, more resting spots, more light with literally hundreds of butterflies flying around you ladies.  I can’t wait to get intimate with these precious creatures!

They regularly fill the pavilion with butterflies from across the United States. This season there will be 20 species of California natives such as the monarch, mourning cloak, and buckeye and 10 species of subtropical varieties from south Florida and Texas, such as the malachite and the grey cracker.  The re-designed and permanent Butterfly Pavilion with its enclosed airy exhibit still showcases a unique ecosystem and plant life that gives you a better understanding of the environment needed for butterflies to thrive and survive.  There is just so much to delight your heart and tickle your senses tomatoes.  Yay!

March 29 – April 1. Legacy and Destiny

LA LIFE: Women’s Voices, Women in Theatre, Butterflies, Vegan Faire

A little birdie told me that “Legacy and Destiny” this year, from the longest-running annual solo festival…Los Angeles Women’s Theatre Festival, is going to be fantabulous Tomatoes! No foolin’.  It’s a celebration of women in…you guessed it…Theatre.

It’s a special weekend because this marks LAWTF’s 25th Silver Anniversary.  Wow! The Gala event on March 29 will be held at Barnsdall Gallery Theatre in honor of exceptional women who have made laudable contributions in theatre. The remainder of the Festival on Friday, March 30 at 8:00 p.m.; Saturday, March 31 at 3:00 and 8:00; and Sunday, April 1 at 3:00 p.m. is at the Electric Lodge in Venice. The Los Angeles Women’s Theatre Festival (LAWTF) marks 25 years of producing well over 500 extraordinary multicultural and multidisciplinary solo performers from around the globe. The Los Angeles Women’s Theatre Festival empowers women artists to engage and inspire communities through the production of multidisciplinary solo performances and educational outreach. The Annual Festival honors the achievement of extraordinary women in theatre.

March 25. Vegan Street Fair

LA LIFE: Women’s Voices, Women in Theatre, Butterflies, Vegan Faire

Calling all Vegan tomatoes! The Vegan Street Fair is back for its 4th year with even more deliciousness to tantalize your taste buds.  It’s your day vegan gals when local vegan and vegan-friendly eateries and vendors team up to celebrate… vegan food. And it ain’t just for Vegans. I guarantee that even if you are a non-vegan you will find something worth munching on.

And get this! Admission is free with the small bites being no more than $4 and regular sized meals are $10. Can’t beat those prices tomatoes. But the organizers say the way to get the most variety, the best experience and biggest bang for your buck is to get a bite from one vendor and then move on to the next and so on and so on. That way tomatoes can enjoy all of our city’s BEST vegan eats for a fraction of the price of a regular meal. Makes perfect sense to me ladies.
