LA LIFE: Garden Party, Pets, Outdoor Concerts, Theater, Harmony
Yes, it is now officially the 2nd day of summer Tomatoes! Ring in the beginning of summer ladies with some of this fabulous events coming up.
June 30. Norton Simon Garden Party
What tomato doesn’t like to don a pretty hat, an airy summer frock and pleasure one’s self by spending time in a picturesque and soothing sculpture garden? It is definitely my cup of tea. Well, The Norton Simon Museum, known around the world as one of the most remarkable private art collections ever assembled, is the host of this delightful outdoor gathering. Focus on that Tomatoes!
And here’s the best part my ladies…the garden party is totally free with the price of admission to the museum. So why not take full advantage and arrive early to check out some of the Museums gallery exhibitions and then extend your Museum experience to outdoors. Refreshments are available at the Museum Café and you can enjoy live jazz all evening. Express your inner artists with fellow art enthusiasts by utilizing a variety of art supplies for your artistic creations all the while enjoying the garden, listening to music and watching the sunset. Loverly.
June 23 – Sept 15. Off the 405
What could be a more exceptional place to enjoy a live summer concert than the Getty Museum in the evening with its breathtaking architecture, gorgeous gardens and incredible sunset views? You tell me Tomatoes. OFF THE 405 is the Getty Center’s annual outdoor summer free concert series bringing the best up and coming, exciting and diverse DJ’s and Live Bands to the Getty’s outdoor stage. Did I say it is FREE Tomatoes?
All you pay for is the parking. First up is the electronic dance music duo “Peaking Lights Family Band.”There’s special pop-up snack bars, food and drink at the museums outlet or bring a picnic. What a wonderful and easy peasy way to spend a summer Saturday night Tomatoes?
June 24. Annenberg PetSpace AnniFURsary Celebration
One year ago, the doors of the “Wallis Annenberg PetSpace” opened, with a mission to strengthen the human-animal bond. I wrote about it a year ago, and needless to say Tomatoes this event should not be missed by any animal lover or anyone looking for a pet to love and nurture. PetSpace has been helping people and pets connect for one year and they’ve found an incredible amount of homes for pets and that is worth celebrating Tomatoes. Yahoo!
They will be ringing in the day with plenty of adoptable pets, behind-the-scenes tours, free food trucks, and more festivities for the entire family! It’s free and open to the public so give it a go Tomatoes!
June 21 – July 15. Sacred Resistance
You know by now I’m a big admirer of the work done by the Jewish Women’s Theatre at The Braid and I’m also a big fan of my Tomato friend Susan Morgenstern a terrific director. Well, she has directed a new show “Sacred Resistance”, written by and starring the very talented Vicki Juditz, at The Braid. If you are wondering what are the elements that you should stand up to then get a ticket to attend “Sacred Resistance” for a humorous and heartfelt journey about doing good in the world.
What’s also wonderful Tomatoes is that this one-woman theatre show is complimented by the Art Gallery Show; “Artwork Evoking Transformation and Self Reflection” which showcases artist Laurie Katz Yehia in the Gallery’s first one-woman art show. Woo Hoo!
Every year, there are about a half dozen art exhibits that tie thematically with the performances presented at The Braid. Patrons experience a theme both visually and dramatically. This artful and innovative aspect of their work deepens engagement with a topic, setting it apart from other theatres and performance spaces. That is just one of the reasons I love The Braid and JWT. Combining Theatre and Art is a brilliant way to give the audience a full on artistic experience and a lot of bang for the very reasonable ticket price.
I also highly recommend having a delicious meal before the show at the intimate and charming Le Petit Café which is literally next door to The Braid. But you must have reservations.
June 26. Hardship to Harmony
Join Marcy Cole at her First Tuesday LA for an inspiring evening illuminating and celebrating “The Path from Hardship to Harmony”. Three amazing women, Kristine Carlson and Lyena Strelkoff and Cheryl Hunter, will share their experience of transcending Trauma…becoming the beacon light in their own lives, while inspiring others to find theirs. Lots of great food for thought that night Tomatoes.
