When we think of observatories in Los Angeles Griffith Park Observatory usually comes to mind first. However, we must never forget about the magnificence of the Mount Wilson Observatory and starting this Sunday afternoon it will host concerts. Our beautiful LA Union Station opened 80 years ago and is definitely worth celebrating big time.  The “Annual Hats and Flats Garden Party” from The Three Tomatoes LA is back Sunday June 2nd. “Bird LA Day” will shine the spotlight on nature. I love Olvera Street and so for me it is the perfect place to celebrate Cinco De Mayo, Tomatoes.  Happy Cinco De Mayo and Happy Week!

Above the clouds on Angeles Crest Highway sits the Mount Wilson Observatory and the world’s largest telescopes for two generations of astronomers. This Sunday May 5th is the inaugural music concert of the 2019 Summer Season in the 100 Inch Telescope Dome towering above Pasadena with hot gypsy jazz on a spring afternoon. Now that is impressive Tomatoes.

On the first Sunday of each month, May through October, for the past 3 years Mount Wilson Observatory has been hosting 2 Sunday afternoon concerts under the artistic direction of Cécilia Tsan , with performances at 3pm & 5pm. And there is a reception with the artists between performances where all attendees are welcome Tomatoes! May 5th is an afternoon of Hot Club de France Jazz featuring the music of Django Reinhardt and Stéphane Grappelli. Violinist Ben Powell and guitarist Roch Lockyer are joined by Brian Netzley on bass. I highly suggest Tomatoes check out all the concerts listed in the dome for the 2019 Summer Season.  It’s a darn cool event Gals!

May 4. The 6th Annual Bird Day LA

LA LIFE: Union Square Anniversary, Concerts, Garden Party, Bird Day, Cinco De Mayo

As the “birdiest” city in the country is it no wonder that we have “Bird Day LA” with a plethora of cool ways to enjoy it? This dedicated day is not only to celebrate our LA biodiversity and the 500+ bird species of our precious feathered friends but to show people that LA has an extremely vibrant bird world that plays a key role in our ecosystem. Yeah! So, bird loving and watching Tomatoes will be happy to know there are a ton, and I mean a ton, of “LA Bird Day” events tomorrow with something for everyone and everywhere and no experience necessary ladies.

You might be asking why we have such aviary abundance.  Well ladies, LA County lies along the Pacific Flyway, a major north-south route for migratory birds in America. In spring and fall, the region plays host to hundreds of millions of birds coming through Southern California on their way back to breeding grounds in the north or wintering grounds in the south. So, in a nutshell we have an array of local habitats — ocean, shore, wetlands, desert, mountains, back yards, foothills and lakes.  That’s why Tomatoes.

May 4-May 5. Cinco de Mayo Festival

LA LIFE: Union Square Anniversary, Concerts, Garden Party, Bird Day, Cinco De Mayo

El Pueblo & Olvera Street are always a wonderful place to visit and to also bring your out of town guests. It is the birthplace and central hub of Los Angeles, after all, but this weekend it is the perfect place to celebrate Cinco de Mayo.  It’s FREE and from 11am – 9pm there will lots of fun for the entire family Tomatoes.

I’s the celebration of Mexico’s surprise victory over French forces in Puebla, Mexico in 1862 and the festive weekend festival, hosted by El Pueblo de Los Angeles Historical Monument, features popular and traditional live music, exhibitor booths, cultural dancing, carnival rides, kids’ activities, entertainment and plenty of delicious Mexican food. They had me Tomatoes at delicious Mexican Food!
