One of Those Days

We’ve all had them, those days where we’re feeling a little “blobish” and everything we put on, makes us look like we just ate a 12-course dinner BUT we still have to show up. What’s a girl to do? Well, here’s a great way to not feel exposed while looking totally put together.

Let’s start with my body type. I’m not only short, but I’m also very short waisted and curvy. My goal is to create length (without having to wear heals), a waist, and not draw too much attention to my hips.

My vintage black knit sheath dress, St. John Knits, is a perfect base piece. I’m using a camel trench, H&M, as a layering piece and will keep it on for the rest of the day, think of it as part of my dress.

I’ve swapped out the coat’s belt with a large black leather belt to create a waist and have strategically shaped the coat into two V’s, one on the upper half and an upside-down one on the lover half of my body. This little trick gives me proportion by making my shoulders look broad, my waist look small and it covers my hips. I’m also maximizing the usage of my coat.

You can also achieve this look by using a wrap-dress or a shirtdress, a long cardigan worn opened over a sheath or leggings (just be sure your base pieces are a solid color.) Please treat your wardrobe well. many people worked very hard to get it to you.
