Lincoln Square Synagogue is asking for gently used men’s, women’s clothing, shoes, linen, tablecloths, towels, handbags, and hair accessories which will be shipped to Israel and distributed to Israel’s neediest, including recent immigrants from Ukraine. Get more details.
Help Save Fearless Girl
Five years ago, the Fearless Girl statue was placed in Wall Street and since then she has become an icon for supporting equality for girls around the globe. Thousands and thousands of young girls have felt empowered as they stood next the Fearless Girl in the same stance with their arms folded. The statute has been in danger of removal several times, and now once again a temporary permit for her to continue on is in review on April 11. The artist, Kristen Visbal is donating the work and wants the city to make Fearless Girl permanent. Add your name to the petition.
June 12. Lee Roy Reams to be Honored
SAVE THE DATE. American Popular Song Society is planning their first fundraiser honoring Broadway and Cabaret star LEE ROY REAMS with a Lifetime Achievement Award. The event will take place at The Cutting Room from 5 to 7:30 pm. There will be many favorite performers to sing and tell stories about and for Lee Roy. Board members Sandi Durell and Marilyn Lester are producing the prestigious event. Stay tuned for more details.

Roving in Chelsea at El Quijote
We were so excited when we heard that El Quijote reopend, so we were so excited that our roving photographer, was there this week. Nicole Freezer Rubens, writes: “I had a delicious dinner at the newly reopened El Quijote restaurant in the infamous Chelsea Hotel. Everything about the restaurant is at once new and old. I felt like I was dining on a movie set, at a table that kept secrets.
The famous Chelsea Hotel opened in 1885 as a long term residence where well known artists, writers, actors and musicians made history. The lengthy list of tenants includes Allen Ginsberg, Mark Twain, Arthur Miller, Joni Mitchell, Madonna, Uma Thurman, Dennis Hopper and Jane Fonda. The good, the bad and the ugly stories surrounding the Chelsea Hotel are legendary and an important part of New York City’s cultural history. The building was landmarked in 1966.
El Quijote, the in-house Spanish restaurant is much smaller and more intimate than when the establishment opened in 1930. The new owners kept and restored the original painted walls, frosted glass and unique inviting atmosphere that truly matched the ambiance and vibe of the notorious hotel.
