Mrs. Maisel Tea at the Plaza

In honor of the current season of Mrs. Maisel, the Plaza Hotel had a special tea menu in her honor at the Palm Court. Our roving photographer, Nicole Freezer Rubens got to experience this. She writes:

As a tremendous fan of the show The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and an avid lover of anything iconic New York, I hit the jackpot when I went to a special throwback Mrs. Maisel themed tea at The Palm Court in The Plaza Hotel. The Palm Court opened in 1907 and was renovated in 2013. When it’s original design was restored it was filled with greenery, inspired by Central Park, which is right outside. The Plaza and the tea salon have been used in countless Hollywood productions because of its very grand dramatic and elegant setting.

The Maisel tea offers a midcentury menu honoring Miriam’s character’s Jewish identity. The variations included pastrami on marbled rye and smoked salmon tea sandwiches. I also enjoyed honey cake and babka flavored cheesecake, all so delicious in any decade!

Tea at the Palm Court is always a special treat. Check out the menu and make a reservation.

As the afternoon tea consultant to the Plaza hotel from 1997 to 2009, it is disheartening to see so many important mistakes in both the menu , presentation and service in their current program. Afternoon tea is not a free for all. It is an art form to be respected which sadly, imho The Plaza is missing its responsibility to the public to get it right.

Roni, your orchid photos are beautiful. Thank you for sharing the exhibit with all.
