June 19 – Oct 2. Sunday Afternoon Concerts

Above the clouds on Angeles Crest Highway sits the Mount Wilson Observatory with one of the two largest telescopes in the world. And the Mount Wilson Observatory is returning with in- person “Sunday Afternoon Concerts in the Dome” for its 5^th season.  Seating is limited and they sell out fast so don’t hesitate to get a reservation for this marvelous musical treat.  And what a treat, it is Tomatoes!

All selected programs are performed by incredible musicians in this modern-day temple of science overlooking Pasadena with a wide range of musical adventures in this series thoughtfully curated by Artistic Director Cécilia Tsan.

Starting June 4. The Great LA River Cleanup

15 sites over 8 weeks with over 15,000 volunteers collecting 50 – 60 tons of trash! Oh my!  It’s time for FoLAR’s  (Friends of the LA River) yearly summer cleanup which just so happens to be the largest urban river cleanup in the nation. Though you may get sweaty and dirty, it’s a wonderful way to work out and get to know our LA river splendor, Tomatoes.

FoLAR will provide volunteers with gloves and trash bags, but it’s a good idea to bring your own bring containers that can be reused as trash receptacles (e.g. buckets, old pillow cases, empty pet food bags) to reduce plastic waste.  Water will be provided but you should bring your own reusable water bottle. Wear sturdy close-toed shoes, boots or water shoes if you have them, and clothes you can get dirty.  You will get in the muck of it, Tomatoes, but you’ll feel good after and the river will too.

LA Style Stories

Last Remaining Seats

“Last Remaining Seats” from the LA Conservancy has been described as magical, special and unlike any other event in Los Angeles.  It’s not just about seeing a classic film on a big screen; it’s about enjoying that fab film in a gorgeous historic theatre or perhaps we should we say …Movie Palace. June 17, July 1, July 15. Outdoor Movies

“Outdoor Movies at the Skirball” is another exciting way to experience movie magic with the added bonus of sitting under the stars.  It’s a great lineup of fan-favorite films (“Galaxy Quest”, “Ratatouille” and “When Harry Met Sally”) that are all related to Skirball exhibitions past and present! I love that concept, Tomatoes!

Museum doors open at 7:00 pm for viewing of the exhibitions “‘I’ll Have What She’s Having’: The Jewish Deli” and “Talking Back to Power: Projects by Aram Han Sifuentes”. Cocktails, wine, beer, and light fare will be available for purchase throughout the night making the evening perfect.

0May 26-June 27. Untitled Baby Play

Female friendship is a priceless gift.  Presented by IAMA Development, the world premiere of “Untitled Baby Play” is an ode to female friendship. This comedy is written by Nina Braddock and directed by Katie Lindsey at the Atwater Village Theatre and what could be better than a play with a stellar cast of 6 women, written by a woman, and directed by a woman, Tomatoes?! Nothing!

Libby is having a baby, and a group of 6 friends is planning her shower over email. What starts out as a comedy of manners for the digital age deepens into something weightier as her longtime friends a doctor, freelance journalist, consultant, teacher, actress and software engineer contend with cyber miscommunications and email chain snubs, forcing them to question their own convictions, fears and existential angst surrounding the baby issue. When the shower finally comes to pass, neuroses reach full throttle.

June 11 & 12. The California Watermelon Festival

Watermelon will certainly get you in the mood for summer and you can gorge on watermelon till the cows come home at “The California Watermelon Festival” at Hansen Dam. 50,000 pounds of watermelon awaits you! Any way you slice it gals, there is nothing better than juicy ice-cold watermelon on a hot summer day so pucker up Tomatoes!

Every ticket includes all-you-can-eat watermelon, lots of kid activities, great bands, photo-ops, live art, custom car show and watermelon specialty foods and deserts. Wow! So much to do and see its mind boggling! The California Watermelon Festival, Inc. is a non-profit organization dedicated to serving the community. Proceeds help fund the following year’s festival and are also provided to service-oriented non-profit entities and school youth development programs. Filling your mouth with watermelon and your heart with joy while doing good is the best.

June 9-12. Tonalism at Descanso
