The exquisite urban oasis in the San Fernando Valley, “SuihoEn, The Japanese Garden”, has reopened and so has the historic “Tail o’ the Pup”.  Yay! The LUME Gallery and the “Andy Warhol CARS” exhibits are grand experiences.  “80’s TV Ladies” is a new LA pop culture podcast. Lots happening at the Annenberg Beach House and there’s plenty of fun to be had at “Concerts at Warner Park”.  Our LA Stylist, Felicia Arlin and LA Poet, Lady Penelope, are back to add pizzazz to the LA Life Newsletter. “Suiho En” (the garden of water and fragrance) is a 6.5 Acre authentic Japanese garden fashioned after the 18th & 19th century “stroll gardens” for Japanese feudal lords. Well…you, too, can feel like a feudal lord 3 days a week in this extraordinary garden, Tomatoes.  I think we deserve that, don’t you?!

The Japanese Garden is unique because it incorporates three classical designs: a dry karensansui, a wet garden with promenade chisen, and an authentic tea ceremony garden incorporating a 4.5 Tatami mat tea room. It’s centrally and conveniently located near the 405 and 101 Freeways with plenty of free parking.  Sounds heavenly!

Tail o’ the Pup Returns

“Tail o’ the Pup” has made a comeback, Tomatoes, just like a Hollywood movie star. Angeleno’s are applauding the legendary hot dog stand’s return to West Hollywood. While honoring Tail o’ the Pup’s history, their team is dedicated to creating traditional tasty dogs, snacks, shakes, and more to satisfy modern tastes as well. Yum!

Tail o’ the Pup’s giant hotdog shaped building has been attracting visitors to Hollywood since 1946 and has been a celebrity hot spot as well.  They work tirelessly to source high quality ingredients and develop house-made recipes with their guests in mind, and they are proud to feature a diverse menu featuring vegetarian and gluten free options. Oooooh! Now that is definitely up my alley.

Andy Warhol Cars

Appearing for the first time in North America in over 30 years, “Andy Warhol: CARS – Works from the Mercedes-Benz Art Collection” opened at the Peterson Auto Museum on July 23rd. The extremely rare assemblage of this exhibit contains some of the most iconic and valuable cars in the world and also includes 40 original Warhol works. Sounds like a big Wow, Gals!

The LUME Gallery

The LUME Gallery is an artistic feast for your senses and imagination.  Located at Magic Box, the permanent digital gallery brings street art to life in an epic adventure. An unexpected and refreshing gem in DTLA, Tomatoes.

The colors, the videos, the projections, the posters are all stellar and transforms the world’s finest art into fully immersive sensory encounters. The exhibit even features 8 sections of the Berlin Wall and an actual graffitied subway station wall. I ’ve heard that it is absolutely breathtaking.

Thru August 28.  Concerts at Warner Park

Since 1975, The Valley Cultural Foundations has provided free diverse programs and events in the arts that bring together talent, community and business throughout the San Fernando Valley. One of those programs is “Summer Concerts at Warner Park” and they are a blast Tomatoes!

Concerts at Warner Park make for an easy, relaxing and entertaining summer evening. Popular food trucks and booths will be on hand to delight your taste buds and enhance your concert experience under the stars. It’s hard to believe summer is going so fast! Might want to hit one of these concerts soon Tomatoes. The Valley Cultural Foundation has over 45 years of experience bringing entertainment to the people of San Fernando Valley. They love all the wonderful talent they have seen over their long exemplary history.  They are deserving of any donation you can provide so they can keep making a difference.

 Summer at The Annenberg Beach House

Summer is in full swing and there’s a plethora of opportunities for summer fun and entertainment at “The Annenberg Beach House.” Just a reminder that it is in a prime beach location in Santa Monica with a glorious facility and view. A fab hangout for Tomatoes.

There’s bound to be a program that interests you. “Sunset Picnic” is a free event on August 11. For a beautiful and relaxing evening just grab your dinner, find a spot in the courtyard or splash pad and listen to live Brazilian music. “Free Seaside Storytime” is for the kiddoes with ocean themed stories, songs, and action rhymes. At “Sunset Swim for Adults” on August 12, August 26, you can enjoy the 1920s heated pool at the former estate of actress Marion Davies, built for her by media mogul William Randolph Hearst.

80’s TV Ladies

Lovers and aficionados of pop-culture, 80’s television, and followers of feminist and social history will adore the all-new LA podcast “80s TV Ladies.” Produced by 134 West and hosted by Susan Lambert Hatem and Sharon Johnson, the podcast is devoted to female-driven television shows of the 80’s.  Sounds like a great show with plenty of 80’s insight and retro laughter for Tomatoes.

You’’ll hear a breakdown of how these TV shows got made, how they were influenced by the times and, in turn, how they influenced pop culture trends that followed. Included are exclusive interviews and behind the scenes content from leads actors, writers, and show creators as they a look back at the television shows that shaped the 1980s.

As young adults, Lambert Hatem and Johnson developed an affinity for 1980s television. Their curiosity about how programs in that decade reflected—or didn’t mirror—the real world grew up in as they looked back and reexamined their favorite shows. “We explore how we viewed the world then – as kids and young adults,” added co-host and podcast producer Johnson. “This podcast will be looking at female-driven ‘80s TV shows, starting with action dramas, from a modern and feminist lens, and see how these ladies shaped both television and our ideas of women.” BRAVO!
