LA Style Stories: In the Trenches and Can’t Bare It

LA Story: In the Trenches

A cohesive wardrobe begins with a strong foundation of, essential basics, from which to build upon. One of those essentials is the Trench Coat. Many on the West Coast or in other warm weather areas don’t feel the need for having one but I disagree. They’re light weight, can be worn year-round, and they instantly elevate even the most casual look. My Trench, H&M, infuses that, pulled together, feeling over my stripe knit top, All Saints, and vintage, 501’s. Because the jeans are, mid-rise, I buy them oversized to wear low on my hips so my short waist appears longer.

The bagginess, in the legs gets adjusted with a large fold-up cuff at the bottom exposing the underside of the denim. The big cuffs not only add a stylistic edginess they keep my jeans straight and taut. I’ve accessorized with an oversized crossbody vintage, Hermes, bag and for a much-needed pop of colour a red headscarf, Vera. My block-heel Spector sling-backs, Shein, add a classic feminine element that makes my look appear more substantial. They’re neat, tidy, and, understated just like my Trench Coat.

style-tip: the wardrobe game changer is understanding how to manipulate your essential basics but first you’ve got to own them.

LA Story: Can’t Bare It

Whatever your reasons are for not wearing halter dresses I’m going to give you some reasons that I hope will change your mind. A column Halter dress like mine, Calvin Klein, gives the illusion of a small waist and a long leaner body and that’s enough for me! Because of the cut it Jedi mind tricks, the eye into seeing from the front, a broader shoulder that makes the rest of the body look long and lean and from the back, a small waist due to the point at where the exposed back and closed body, connect.

Perhaps a reason to not wear a Halter is not wanting to go bare. I completely understand so why not layer it over a thin knit top like mine, Zara, or crewneck T-shirt or a lightweight turtleneck? You get the same benefits from layering as you’d get with a bare back and you’ll look incredibly chic and en-pointe for Spring. My, Burberry, plaid hat and bag add a nice contrasting element to my solid pieces. They are both small and contained in their placement, so they don’t distract from the dress. My fun casual look is complete with, Dr. Martens, boots. They add the loftiness in style and coverage that are in balance with my total look.

style-tip: turn obstacles into opportunities.

*please treat your wardrobe well. many people worked very hard to get it to you.
