One Step to Spring Style
Are you itching for spring? I think many of us are itching for spring in more ways than one. The weather is a little warmer and the days are a little longer. And you’re itching to head out of the house and start enjoying your clothes again (without having to bundle up every single day).
But can you start feeling spring in your style if the weather isn’t cooperating? Yes! There are a bunch of ways you can channel the new season (no matter what the thermometer says), but I’ll sum up my favorite in 2 words. LIGHTEN UP.
I’m sure we could all lighten up every once in a while – but I’m talking about lightening up with a few things in your wardrobe. Spring is the time to feel lighter, brighter and like a new beginning. So, whether your weather is ‘spring is already here’ balmy or ‘why isn’t spring here yet’ frigid (or both in one day), here 3 quick ways to LIGHTEN UP so you can start feeling spring right now.
LIGHTEN YOUR COLORS
You know all those deep, dark colors you wore all winter? And the times you wore all black? Well, those days are over for now. You can feel spring by shifting from darker tones to lighter and paler colors. Trade your neutrals from black, charcoal and navy to shades of taupe, ivory and pale gray. Shift from saturated fall and winter hues into softer and brighter versions of your favorite colors. It’s a subtle shift, but it can make spring weather feel that much closer.
LIGHTEN YOUR LAYERS
You know those days that start kind of freezing and by midday, it’s jumped 25 degrees? The solution for dealing with this is layers, because layers are easy to pile on in the morning and then take off later as needed. And with spring coming, you can lighten the layers you choose – trade your winter wools and chunky knits for cotton, silk and other lighter weight fabrics. And get this: layering two light fabrics is often warmer (and more versatile) than one heavy piece. For more of my best layering tips, read this.
LIGHTEN YOUR SHOES
Yes, you can feel lighter all the way down to your feet. If your weather is warmer, let your feet breathe in mules or styles that show off your ankles. And if you’re still in bootie weather, put away your black ones in favor of light colored suede styles.
