Style Stories Denim Days
Denim Days (Part 1)
Back in my Garment Industry days, I wore jeans and a t-shirt almost every day to work it was my thing a self imposed uniform. These days I don’t wear them as much but when I do they seem to be part of a look that’s more styled and elevated like today. I’m wearing my low-rise jeans, AG (the stilt), and a vintage, Gucci, belt with a check shirt from the (boy’s dept.), Tronjori on Amazon and a blazer, Zara.
It’s such an easy casual look that’s also very pulled together. The neutral palette and the fact that each piece is structured and fits close to the body make for a very neat and tidy look. I’m wearing a pair of flat loafers (trending for Spring), LK Bennett London, and I’ve gone with a classic handbag, Vintage, rather than a crossbody/shoulder-strap. It’s all about that lack of flowyness and movement of my items, including my handbag. My look is easy and straight forward and takes me from day to a casual evening out.
style-tip: it helps to know your end-game. choosing the “right” pieces to get you there is everything
Denim Days (part 2)
One of the things I love most about styling with denim is it “goes with the flow”. Today I’m wearing another “casual” look in the same jeans, AG (the stilt), from yesterday with a white linen blazer, Claude Barthelemy, a black rib turtlenck, Zara, my black/white gum bottom mid-heel loafers, Matte Voglia and black bucket bag, Carla Mancini. Notice how completely different my denim looks are between both stories. It’s because I’m using an achromatic colour scheme of black and white that draws the eye’s focus. When we use black and white next to each other they pop! And everything else somewhat disappears.
Even though my jeans take up most of my body, our eyes go directly to my black turtleneck and white jacket then down to my white and black shoes. Notice that I did not add a belt. The reason is simple, it would create a break and the eye would have to readjust. Also the belt needs to thread through the belt hoops that would result in another colour combination of blue & black – exactly what I don’t want. Because I’m using only 3 colours and I’m being strategic about their placement my daytime denim look transitions with ease into nighttime.
style-tip: knowing why where and how to use colour makes us all better stylists
