Miami Life: Sushi Supreme, Grand Prix Highlights, Clothes Store Find
If you love Sushi, and/or Japanese food, don’t leave this planet without experiencing Kosushi. I went there the other night with a client. Miami is still recovering from The Formula 1 Grand Prix last weekend. Carbone had the most outrageous event, and the races attracted an Oscars and Met Gala a who’s who guest list. I have good news for Miami women would rather stay home than be seen in the same outfit twice—a store with gently used high-end clothes.
Miami Michelin Guide Sushi
I went to Kosushi the other night with my client from Palo Alto, CA, because he said that Silicon Valley doesn’t have many Japanese restaurants. I was surprised to hear that because all of the people I know in the tech industry love Sushi. He added that if I love Chinese food then Silicon Valley is the place to live. The large Chinese population has attracted the best restaurants in the country.
Meanwhile, back in Miami, I want to declare that Kosushi is one of the best Japanese restaurants in the country. This amazing restaurant is located at 801 South Pointe Drive, a block away from the famous Joe’s Stone Crab.
I consider myself a sushi expert because I have been eating it for years, from every type of venue all over the world. I am telling you that the sushi from Kosushi melted in our mouths. I never tasted anything so good. My client, a lover of Japanese food, totally agreed with me. In fact, I think the meal bonded us in ways that you can only experience if you love sushi.
I was so proud of myself. Even though the restaurant is pricey, I insisted on ordering every sushi selection on the menu. He wanted to share. I was hosting so I said I was ordering a double order of everything on the Signature Sushi menu. I have been working with this client a very long time and he deserves the best. I also didn’t want to miss a piece.
As it turns out my decision was a good one. We both said every piece was a magical delight. We can’t explain the taste other than it was delectable. We have both been to Japan and excellent restaurants in the United States but this was very exceptional.
We learned from the website that Kosushi started in
São Paulo, Brazil in 1988. Kosushi has been awarded with a Michelin Guide star in 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019. Kosushi Miami is the first international location for the brand. Chef George Koshoji, and business partner Carlos Augusto Carvalho, are the owners.
“We marry traditional Japanese techniques with Brazilian flavors and what ties it all together is the quality of the food,” Carvalho says. “We have been well accepted in Miami. People who come into the restaurant appreciate the precision of the cut, unique spices, and the quality of the rice.”
By the way, the interior design at Kosushi is quite overwhelming. It’s a combination of Japanese architecture in a contemporary look. The design features white oak wooden cubes in a complex joinery arrangement with luminaires tied to it, contrasting the organic shapes of the sushi bar and the tables area bench, achieving visual balance and harmony.
Carbone’s Outrageous Event During Gran Prix Weekend
Carbone Created The Most Outrageous Event During The Formula 1® Miami Grand Prix 2023 Weekend
One of the most amazing things about Miami Beach is the ability to stage events right on the beach. I saw my first event 22 years ago when the Wine and Food Show set up a series of tents on the sand, very close to the surf, as the venue for the four-day eating fest.
Being a typical New Yorker I rarely saw the sky all my life, much less the sand and ocean. I couldn’t believe my good fortune. I was living with nature. While all of my friends were freezing in Manhattan, I was frolicking on the sand eating everything in sight. It was a magical few day.
I get to see many events from my 36th floor condo. The one that everyone is talking about this week was the $3,000 a plate dinner that Carbone produced during what is The Formula 1® Miami Grand Prix 2023 Weekend.
Carbone is one of the most celebrated Italian restaurants of the last decade. The original restaurant is located in Greenwich Village, New York, and the second reincarnation is on Collins Avenue, South of Fifth, a block away from the beach. The owners are well known restaurateurs: Mario Carbone, Rich Torrisi, and Jeff Zalaznick. Together they own the Major Food Group, creators of THE GRILL, Sadelle’s, ZZ’s Clam Bar, Parm, and Dirty French.
It takes that kind of talent to dream up a new type of culinary experience. Held under a massive tent, the event, called Carbone Beach, included curated cocktails, raw bars, caviar displays, and some of Carbone’s signature dishes. Carbone promoted the event by saying, “You can bank on having one of the best nights of your life. Come hungry, bring a change of shoes, and cancel tomorrow’s calls.”
The one caveat. Tickets for the lavish dinner had to be purchased with an American Express card. The tables accommodated eight to 14 guests. You might ask who on earth would pay $3,000 for one dinner? The answer: Carbone had 400 reservations. Diana Ross was the headliner.
Check out Carbone for reservations.
Who was at the Formula One Miami Grand Prix on Sunday?
The better question is: Who wasn’t? The list of attendees sounded like the guest list at the Oscars or Met Gala, not trackside at the Miami International Autodrome at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens.”
We are talking Tom Cruise, Vin Diesel, Ludacris, Colombian Pop Star Shakira, DJ Khaled (who was also spotted at the Miami Heat game Saturday); Gloria and Emilio Estefan; Serena and Venus Williams; Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner, whose brother Joshua was also there with his supermodel wife Karlie Kloss, who is reportedly pregnant. hospitality guru David Grutman, Roger Federer, electronica DJ Martin Garrix, reggaeton sensation Rauw Alejandro, all three Jonas Brothers (Joe lives in the area with his actress wife Sophie Turner).
The star power was all over the beach all week long. I kept getting calls from friends that they spotted Cruise, Federer, and the Jonas Brothers at Prime 112,
Lincoln Road, and in the Design District. We hear that some of the investment bankers, who now make Miami their main home, threw lavish parties for every big star they could secure.
The weather was great so everyone enjoyed a few days of low humidity and all the sunshine they could possibly want. It was a very exciting time in Miami, and it would have been perfect, if the traffic wasn’t so bad. Our roads are starting to look like Los Angeles. Ouch!
Miami’s Latest Clothes Find
Miami Women Would Rather Stay Home Than Be Seen In The Same Outfit Twice.
Miami women just got a piece of good news. There is a new type of clothing store, not too far from the Dolphin Mall, where women can buy clothes at a steep discounted price if they bring in used dresses, or jackets, for credits that get applied toward their purchases. Of course, every item has to be evaluated. Most exchanges range from $15 to the maximum of $120.
According to the Miami Herald, the store is the brainchild of businesswoman Rossanna Ceccato who also runs the online exchange startup Redress.”First launched online last year, shoppers also can skip the store and opt to get their clothing evaluated and exchanged through the company’s digital application or website.”
Ceccato plans to expand the company’s physical footprint outside Florida. She told the Miami Herald that her female customers would rather be caught dead than be photographed or seen in the same outfit twice. “Therefore, she decided to start a new business, so those loyal customers she had could bring back those clothes — and unload their closets in the process — and swap them for something else at a lower price rather than buying more brand new dresses to only wear once or twice.”
The company has an app and website where customers post pictures of the apparel they wanted to exchange. Ceccato or one of her two employees, evaluates the wear and tear, as well as brand name on the labels.
The new store is located at 10890 NW 17th St.
The Miami Herald said it best.
