Sonnets from Suburbia: Chicken Caesar

Our LA Life Poetess Lady Penelope, AKA actress/author Penny Peyser, continues this week to explain modern life through Shakespearean verse. In this week’s episode her sonnet objects to the name “Chicken Caesar” and she explains why in the only way Lady Penelope can. And don’t forget to order a copy of Penny Peyser’s (Lady Penelope) brilliant newly released book, “Sonnets from Suburbia: More Candles Than Cake”.

Chicken Caesar

A Chicken Caesar’s not a name that’s earned

By any stretch of reason for a man

Who brutally was murdered when he turned

His back on Brutus and his evil plan.

Betrayal’s not a cause to name a salad

Especially one accompanied with fowl

Denoting cowardice.  Let’s choose a ballad

In minor key to sing with mournful howl.

For shame this man’s namesake’s part of a diet

That’s ordered when we’re longing to grow slim.

The Ides of March did cause a hateful riot.

I came to bury Caesar, not to eat him.

O’ try to honor him and cry, “All Hail!”

And if his mem’ries dear please hold the kale.
