Holiday Train Show Returns to Grand Central Station
For the first time since 2019, the New York Transit Museum’s Grand Central Gallery plays host to a city within a city with the display of a miniature electric railroad running over, through, and beneath some of New York’s most magnificent landmarks. This beloved annual holiday exhibit features model trains traveling along a 34′ long, two-level, “O” gauge model train layout. Departing from a miniature replica of Grand Central Terminal, the Transit Museum’s collection of Lionel trains including Metro-North, Polar Express, and vintage subway train sets will dazzle the eyes of children and adults alike as they make their way past New York landmarks and on to the North Pole. Roving at the Oculus

The Oculus at the World Trade Center is one of the many things of beauty that came out of the destruction of 9/11. As the centerpiece of the rebuilt site, this mall opened in 2016. It is an architectural feat of great visual and practical interest, designed by a Spaniard named Santiago Calatrava. He used white metal clad steel and glass to create the illusion of a dove in flight after being released from a hand. Others see the structure as a claw hanging on to lower Manhattan. Every time I am there, I clearly visualize the skeleton of a whale and am reminded of the fable of Jonah and the Whale, referring to repentance, faith and survival.
The Oculus is 365,000 square feet housing a plethora of retail stores, subway and PATH train stops. The exact location is 50 Church Street, right next to the National September 11 Memorial Museum. On November 24th, for first time ever the Winter Whirl roller rink will open and you too can have a chance to whirl around inside a massive whale with a view!

Dec. 6 Dianne Fraser at Don’t Tell Mama
Acclaimed Los Angeles cabaret artist Dianne Fraser will make a rare East Coast appearance in December to celebrate the release of her debut album, You and I – The Words and Music of Leslie Bricusse. The recording was arranged and produced by Todd Schroeder and is being released on the blujazz label. The show, directed by Laura Henry, will be at legendary theater district nightspot Don’t Tell Mama on Dec. 6 2023 at 7PM. There is a music charge of $20 per person and a $20 minimum per person (must include two drinks). Don’t Tell Mama is a CASH ONLY ROOM at 343 West 46th Street, between 8th and 9th Avenues. Dec. 8. Celia Berk at Winter Rhythms at Urban Stages
Award winning vocalist Celia Berk will appear in Winter Rhythms at Urban Stages this holiday season in A DREAM AND A SONG: The Musical Stories of Elizabeth Sullivan. There will be one performance only on Dec. 8 at 7PM. She will be joined by guitarist Sean Driscoll, violinist Seoyeon Im and pianist/music director Jon Weber. Jeff Harnar directs. Cheryl Benton, aka the “head tomato” is founder and publisher of The Three Tomatoes, a digital lifestyle magazine for “women who aren’t kids”.
