Roving in Sicily
Nicole Freezer Rubens shares her recent trip to Sicily.
There is a first time for everything and I recently returned from my first trip to Sicily. The most fascinating feature of discovering this ancient Italian island, was the mix of what it has to offer. Ancient Greek and Roman ruins are so common that the locals often pass them in their every day routines as many times as I pass a CVS. The same is true for the abundance of old churches and theaters that dapple the towns and remain in use.
The scenery is diverse. Palermo is as nitty gritty as a city gets, in stark contrast to breathtaking Taormina, a glamorous beach town nestled into the hillside of the Ionian Sea, and the historically significant city of Siracusa. Nature dominates with the bluest water, endless mountain ranges engulfing the island and of course Mount Etna, that can be viewed from far and wide, with steam often dramatically rising from its chimney. The region’s rich soil produces delectable ingredients making Sicily known for its citrus, nuts, olives and wine. I loved the variety of sites and differing personalities of the cities I was able to see.
Lastly on my way home I spent one night in Naples and finally crossed eating authentic doughy pizza from the source, off my bucket list. Of course I had locally grown pistacho gelato almost daily. Ciao Sicily. Thanks for the memories and the Aperol spritzes.

Say Hello to Dublin through the Portal
We are definitely heading to Flatiron South Public Plaza at Broadway, Fifth Avenue, and 23rd Street, next to the Flatiron Building to check out “The Portal”, a groundbreaking public technology sculpture known that forms a visual bridge between New York City and Dublin, Ireland. It offers 24/7 real-time, visual live streams that connect New Yorkers and Dubliners.
In Dublin, the Portal faces the capital’s main street, O’Connell Street and will capture the iconic vista of both Dublin’s famous GPO building and the Spire together.
Founded by Lithuanian artist and entrepreneur Benediktas Gylys, Portals are an invitation to meet fellow humans above borders and differences and to experience our world as it really is – united and one. The livestream of Portals provides a window between distant locations, allowing people to meet outside of their social circles and cultures.
The tomato behind The Three Tomatoes.
Cheryl Benton, aka the “head tomato” is founder and publisher of The Three Tomatoes, a digital lifestyle magazine for “women who aren’t kids”. Having lived and worked for many years in New York City, the land of size zero twenty-somethings, she was truly starting to feel like an invisible woman. She created The Three Tomatoes just for the fun of it as the antidote for invisibility and sent it to 60 friends. Today she has thousands of friends and is chief cheerleader for smart, savvy women who want to live their lives fully at every age and every stage. She is the author of the novel, "Can You See Us Now?" and co-author of a humorous books of quips, "Martini Wisdom." Because she's lived a long time, her full bio won't fit here.
