Sonnets from Suburbia: My To-dos

My To-dos

My to-do calendar includes all meals

I’m happily preparing to ingest.

Despite more pressing matters, that appeals

a little more than tasks that serve me best.

Each item that I list should get a check

beside it by the time the sun goes down.

And yet my efforts waver and deflect

those chores that turn my smile into a frown

What’s more important than my nourishment,

the fuel that gives me energy to think?

That is my rationale. Encouragement

to feed myself will keep me in the pink.

Although imperatives are incomplete,

at least I know I’ll not forget to eat.
