July 6. A New Nation Anthem?
New York, NY, US-August 16, 2021: Lincoln Center, performing arts venue, lit up against a blue night sky.
Head to Lincoln Center tonight at 8 PM and hear the three finalists in the anthem contest conducted by the Brooklyn Museum and Lincoln Center. The idea was that the Star Spangled Banner feels dated and they encouraged dozens of musicians to submit an anthem of that reflects the collective hopes, struggles and histories of today’s America. The concert is free, but first come first serve for seating. Get the details.
July 11. The Summer Sparkle Event
Hosted by designer Gabrielle Carlson in her beautiful clothing boutique, this event brings together two of our favorite jewelry designers, Laura Kass and Amy Kanarek. Laura is known for her creative fine/demi-fine pieces, made of recycled metals, silk, and 14kgold thread to create one-of-a-kind jewelry designs. Amy’s unique designs are created by hand from seed beads, Swarovski crystals, Czech glass beads, gemstones, and freshwater pearls.

The ice rink is now a fun art installation by renowned artist Joel Mesler. Immerse yourself in an atmosphere of hope, joy, and love at “Pool Party,” a refreshing oasis, set against the backdrop of New York City. Roving in Dumbo

One of my daughters recently moved to Dumbo. I have walked around this lively neighborhood for years watching its gradual gentrification, but suddenly I am overwhelmed by the views.
Dumbo’s waterfront location offers a clear perspective of multiple bridges, centering around the Manhattan Bridge, lending itself to the area’s 1978 acronym Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass. Even the name has character!
The area began as a ferry landing filled with industrial warehouses and today bears the nickname Brooklyn Tech Triangle. In the late 1800s the cardboard box was invented in Dumbo, and now it is home to multiple startups including Etsy.
Brooklyn Bridge Park along the shoreline offers a lively gathering place and houses the world famous Jane’s Carousel. The ride was built in 1922 in Philadelphia and purchased in 1984 by Dumbo’s prime developer David Walentas. The magnificent attraction was meticulously restored in a 27 year renovation, finally finding a home just below the Brooklyn Bridge.
I can see why my daughter who also moved from Philadelphia to Dumbo, chose to live there. The expansive vision certainly inspires creativity and all that awaits her back home in New York City.

IKEA is Coming to Fifth Avenue
IKEA announced this week that it will be opening in the heart of the Fifth Avenue shopping district in Manhattan as a prime anchor of a new office tower, which will be located at 570 Fifth Avenue between West 46th and 47th Street. The new store will encompass 80,000 square feet over two levels. But you’ll have to wait a while to shop…it’s not scheduled until 2028,
