Thoughtful Hosting Gifts for Summer Parties

When attending a summer barbecue or party, bringing a thoughtful hosting gift can show your appreciation and make your hosts feel special.

If you are attending a casual event where most guests bring a bottle of wine, I suggest getting two bottles if you are attending as a couple: one for the party and a special bottle for the host. When attending solo, just one special bottle should do the trick. A special wine might be just a tad pricier or have a good back story.

When shopping for gifts, I find it helpful to choose something that aligns with the nature of the event and its timing.

For a Barbecue:

  • Grill Accessories: Grill mitts, chef’s apron, BBQ tool set, hot sauce condiments, or corn on the cob holders.
  • Beverage Enhancers: Glass or stainless-steel straws, fun-shaped silicone ice cube trays, a white wine bottle chilling rod, a wine cooler sleeve, or stemware name tags.
  • Party Essentials: Cocktail napkins and napkin holders.

For a Wine and Cheese Gathering:

  • Special Bottle of Wine or Port: Choose a unique vintage or a wine with a personal story.
  • Wine Accessories: Wine bottle coaster, foil cutters, drip rings, wine bottle stoppers, reusable vacuum stoppers for Champagne, or stemware name tags.
  • Complementary Items: Candles, infusers, honey, fig jam, nuts, olives, a cheese spreader set, or a wine and cheese pairing guidebook.
  • Party Basics: Coasters, cocktail napkins with napkin holders.

For a Dinner Party:

  • Beverages: Bottle of port, an after-dinner cordial, or a selection of craft beers.
  • Serving Items: a cheese knife set, a small cheese board, a small serving dish or bowl, serving spoons or utensils, or placemats.
  • Gourmet Touches: Maldon Sea Salt or other specialty salts, olive oil or vinegar, honey with a honey dipper, artisanal chocolates, or a spice blend set.
  • Decor and Essentials: Candles, linen napkins, soap & soap dish, or cocktail accessories or book.

A well-chosen gift ensures hosts feel valued and appreciated, enhancing the overall enjoyment of the party.  Cheers!
