Food Hall Pays Homage to the Old Lord & Taylor

Oh, how we miss that store. The Food Hall Co. has just announced that it is opening a food hall, Shaver Hall, located in the old L&T store that is now Amazon’s Hank building at 424 5th Avenue.  Shaver Hall will celebrate the rich heritage of the iconic Lord & Taylor building. The new food hall is named in honor of Dorothy Shaver, the trailblazing president of Lord & Taylor and first woman to head a multimillion-dollar business. It promises to be a dynamic culinary experience with two restaurants, more than 10 food stalls, two full-service bars, a uniquely curated bodega, and live music. READ MORE.

 Roving in Bloomingdales

 Nicole Freezer Rubens writes:

Bloomingdales has kicked off Fashion Week and the new season with a storewide takeover, From Italy, With Love. For the next 2 months, shoppers will be immersed in over 300 exclusive Italian products. This finely curated collaboration includes clothing, accessories, jewelry, home goods, a furniture exhibit and lots of delicious food products available in an adorable lobby market called Il Mercado. I sampled some delicious, salted chocolate and taralli, and washed it down with a free pungent espresso.

In addition to tastings, the retailer will host brand pop-ups and lectures about Italian products. There will even be classes on making gnocchi and cannolis.

The best part of this installation is the whimsical displays dispersed throughout the store. I was greeted by some oversized tomatoes and quite surprised by a larger-than-life Moncler jacket perched on the ground floor.

For a true taste of Italy and a little education, go and explore all that Bloomingdale’s has to offer, while not experiencing a single bit of jet lag.

Spotlight on Long Island’s Theaters

Broadway is certainly the pinnacle of theater, but our Long Island reporter, Andrea Peponakis says our local theaters offer a vibrant experience that is just as captivating at a lesser expense. Heading to a Broadway show is always special but why not skip the hustle and bustle and enjoy an unforgettable performance right in your backyard? Supporting local theater means, not only enjoying top-notch entertainment but also, showing support for local talent in our community.  GET THE SCOOP.
