How old do you feel?
I just celebrated my 69th birthday. Every year when I have a birthday the number gets bigger, funny how that works. The number is now big enough that I am having the thought – how did this happen? 😊 I feel at least 10 years younger than my age.
How old do you feel?
I’ve been thinking about how I want to “grow old?” and I’ve decided I don’t want to “grow old”, I want to keep enjoying my life to the fullest right till the end. Sports have always been an important part of my life. I want to be able to keep riding my bike the rest of my life.
In the past I had a vision of my husband and I being in our 90’s sitting on our patio holding hands feeling content. I realized that’s not the only thing I want to be doing. I want to still be lifting weights and riding my bike and so much more. So why would I be visioning that? I have changed my vision.
We want to be telling our unconscious the story we want to be living. We’re telling ourselves something with our thoughts and by what we emotionalize all the time. We want to take our attention off our fears and problems and put it on what we would love.
I would love to be riding my bike with my husband in my 90’s. I have been putting my attention on that when I think of having a higher age number – not even thinking “growing older” any more.
Then of course the Universe gave me a perfect example that its possible on a bike trip in Italy.
We came upon a man who is 91 years old. He was way out on the back roads by himself on a bicycle. It wasn’t just any bike. It was a 1970’s bike. He participates in the L’Eroica in Tuscanny, Italy, a race on ancient roads using obsolete bikes. Only bikes made prior to 1987 are allowed to enter.
Here was this vintage man on a vintage bike. I was thinking YES! If he can do it, I can do. Check out his water bottles! 😊
I saw another great example of growing old well on Facebook. Meet Margaret Johnson, a 100 year-old powerhouse from Denver, Colorado, who’s proving that age is just a number! Margaret didn’t even start running until she was 70, but now, at 100, she’s smashing records and inspiring everyone around her. On September 5th, at the National Senior Games, she broke two master sports records, becoming the fastest woman over 95 years old!
What’s the image you’re holding of your health or your life? Do you allow yourself to go to the thoughts that you can have this or that you can’t. As Henry Ford said, “You think you can or you think you can’t, either way you’re right.”
It doesn’t matter the current state of your health. Don’t let that stop you from taking the first step, which is to vision what you would love to be experiencing in terms of your physical health and mental wellbeing.
Be firm with your thinking and remember that you get to decide what thoughts you think and what images you hold.
Here’s to living your dream and feeling young at any age.”
