NYC LIFE: Flowers, Films for Kids, Benefits Helping Women and Girls
With the fabulous almost spring weather, and springing ahead this weekend, we’re all yearning to get out and about and hurl off winter. Well flowers and films are a great way to start off spring. And there are two benefits coming up that will support two organizations we highly recommend that are helping women and girls – one right here in NYC and one global.
March 20–April 3. Flowers and “Beautiful” in Herald Square.
Make sure to head to Macys for their annual flower show. It’s always a treat. The outside Broadway Plaza will be beautifully decorated with amazing flowers, and when you walk inside the store, there is just one word – WOW! This year’s theme is America the Beautiful. Special events including live music, like the cast of “Beautiful” on March 20, plus kids’ activities and seminars will take place throughout the show. Get the details.
March 22. Benefit Event: The Perilous Journey of Women & Children Refugees
There are 43 million worldwide refugees and over half of them are women and girls. On March 22, the NY Chapter of the US National Committee for UN Women (the United Nations organization that is a global champion for women and girls) will host an evening to raise funds for UN Women and to honor other organizations who are helping refugees and migrants around the global. These groups include: Women’s Refugee Committee and Doctors Without Borders. The event will be held in a spectacular NYC apartment (featured in Architectural Digest). Tickets are $75 and guests will enjoy wine and light fare. Get the details.
Thru March 30. New York International Children’s Film Festival
Here’s something great to do with the kids this month. Head to NYC for the largest children’s film festival in North America. The films are challenging and thought-provoking for kids in addition to being highly entertaining. Many of the films premiered here go on to the Oscars, including 3 animated films nominated at this year’s Oscars. The festival includes all kinds of films and programs (like filmmaking and Q&A with the filmmakers) for kids 3-18. Get the details.
April 12. Benefit for The Bella Abzug Leadership Institute Honors Judy Collins
Tomatoes know how important it is to support and help young women become leaders. For ten years, The Bella Abzug Leadership Institute has faithfully worked with young women and girls, inspiring, mentoring and training them to become leaders in creating positive social and economic change. All of their programs are provided at no cost to their trainees. This fabulous NYC based organization was founded by Bella’s daughter, Liz Abzug to honor her mother’s legacy. Join them at their 10th anniversary celebration benefit. Let’s help the next generation of young women. Get the details.
