The Three Tomatoes Story

fabulous, tomato, you know you're a tomato if, the three tomatoesWhen it comes to marketing to fabulous ladies in the prime of their lives, you’ve no doubt noticed that marketers think we’re dead. We’re so far off their radar screen even the Hubbell telescope couldn’t bring us into focus.  They seem to have forgotten, or worse, don’t care, that we still love clothes, shoes, bags, jewelry, make up, spas, and guys (husbands, lovers, and just plain old cute guys to ogle.)  We know how to order a great wine with dinner, and cocktails without fruit.  We own condos and homes (often more than one), buy new cars, and manage our own finances. We’re the generation that’s redefined every decade of our lives.   And here’s the best part!  We have the money to buy things that makes our lives simpler and easier, and make us look and feel better.  Yet, to marketers, we’re the “invisible” women.

For many years, we have lived, worked, and played in New York City, the land of size zeros and smart, witty, great looking twenty and thirty somethings. Yes, they seem to rule the City. Ever try to buy clothes in SOHO or Union Square if you’re “heaven-forbid” a size 8 or more?  Ever walk into yet another trendy new bar in the City and try to get the attention of the gorgeous young bartender (he or she) who’s hanging out at the other end of the bar chatting up the cute gals and guys? And aren’t you a little mistrustful of the reviews for products/restaurants/services/ music/ plays, written by hip twenty-somethings for hip wanna be’s?

So we decided it was high time to do something for us, and about us, and that something became The Three Tomatoes.  What started out as a newsletter with the real skinny on the best of everything in NYC for fabulous, smart women like you and us, soon attracted smart fabulous women from coast to coast (and even across the pond). It wasn’t just NYC women who were feeling invisible, and our newsletters that talked about everything from where to get the best facials, thong underwear that are actually comfortable, our opinions about plastic surgery, Botox, children, husbands, friends and whatever else may be coursing through our hormonally charged brains, gained a following. And then people with expertise and knowledge wanted to be part of this adventure, and before you could say hot flash, we had a web site, which has grown into full blown lifestyle guide for fun, smart “tomatoes.”

Explore our web site and Sign up for The Three Tomatoes newsletter today.  It’s fun, free, and fab!

The tomato behind The Three Tomatoes.
Cheryl Benton, aka the “head tomato” is founder and publisher of The Three Tomatoes, a digital lifestyle magazine for “women who aren’t kids”. Having lived and worked for many years in New York City, the land of size zero twenty-somethings, she was truly starting to feel like an invisible woman. She created The Three Tomatoes just for the fun of it as the antidote for invisibility and sent it to 60 friends. Today she has thousands of friends and is chief cheerleader for smart, savvy women who want to live their lives fully at every age and every stage. She is the author of the novel, "Can You See Us Now?" and co-author of a humorous books of quips, "Martini Wisdom." Because she's lived a long time, her full bio won't fit here.
