Unlock the Astonishing Power of Your DNA for Optimum Health and Well-Being

By Deepak Chopra M.D. and Rudolph E. Tanzi Ph.D.
We don’t stay this lightly tomatoes, but seriously Super Genes, from the bestselling authors of Super Brain – Deepak Chopra and Rudolph Tanzi -will totally change your view of health and well-being and the role your lifestyle choices can play in not just optimizing your health, but how your lifestyle choices can take you to a level the authors call “radical health.”

Super Genes explodes the rigid notion that our genes are fixed and unchangeable. New research has proved that our lifestyle choices can directly influence whether or not certain genes get turned on or off. This opens up, for the first time, a way for people to influence their health in unsuspecting ways.

For decades we’ve been told that genes determine our biological destiny.  But now, new genetics have changed that assumption forever.  One of the biggest discovery is  that only 5% of disease-related gene mutations are fully deterministic, while 95% of our genes can be influenced by diet, behavior, and other environmental conditions, proving that lifestyle leads to helpful or harmful genetic activity.  In short, we can control our gene destiny!

Those of you who love science will enjoy the first part or the book.  But it’s really the following sections of the book that can change your life.  The authors walk us through six lifestyle choices—diet, stress level, exercise, meditation, sleep, and emotions—that can radically enhance our well-being.

Each section walks you through easy to implement changes that each of us could implement on our road to better health.  Each section has easy changes, harder changes, and experimental changes.  The authors suggest that in each area you pick 2-5 changes that you think you can easily make in your lifestyle.  And each week you pick just one to implement.  Over time, the changes will become part of your lifestyle and you can start incorporating some of the harder ones that will start becoming easier.

For example, we’ve started off with meditating for 10 minutes each day.  (They explain all the benefits of meditating too.)   And because we spend so many hours a day at our computer, we’ve now set a timer so that every hour we get up, move around and even do a little exercise.  It’s amazing how we thought we were moving around, but then realized how quickly an hour goes by.  Simple changes that can make a big difference.

This book makes sense on so many levels, and the practical guides to things we can all really do to make incorporating lifestyle changes easy, will hopefully lead us to substantial health changes.
