This step-by-step video is terrific and will walk you through exactly what to do. Below are a few basic tips to keep in mind. Good luck!
Here are some expert tips:
Don’t Wash Your Hair Beforehand: The natural oils on your scalp act as a protective barrier against irritation from hair dye chemicals. So, avoid washing your hair right before coloring. Clean hair is essential but keep those natural oils intact.
Remove Buildup: If your hair is particularly dirty, wash it at least 24 hours before applying the dye. Use a clarifying shampoo to create a clean canvas for even color distribution.
Detangle Your Hair: Thoroughly detangle your hair before applying color. This prevents knots and ensures an even application.
Choose the Right Formula: Consider your hair type and desired color. Different formulas work better for various hair textures and shades.
Do not try to apply the color with the little bottle in the kit. Watch the video which shows you how to section your hair and use a bowl with a brush to apply the color.
Do NOT Try to Match Your Brows: Hair and eyebrow colors don’t need to match perfectly. Slightly different shades can look more natural.
Do NOT Deviate from Directions: Always read and follow the instructions on the hair dye box carefully.
Do NOT Overdo It on Grays: If covering grays, choose a shade close to your natural color. Going too dark can make them stand out.
Do NOT Use Only One Color: For a more natural look, consider using multiple shades or highlights.
