A late-night restaurant in midtown!
These days (for obvious reasons), finding a restaurant that serves much past 9:30 or 10 PM is rare. And finding a restaurant that serves market fresh, healthful fare in midtown Manhattan is even rarer.
I was pleasantly surprised to find an eatery that checks both boxes.
James Beard winning chef Jonathan Waxman, known for his breezy California cuisine, has a restaurant in the beautiful 1 Hotel just east of 6th Avenue on 58th Street.
Jams serves until 11 PM many nights and boasts a healthful, vegetable focused menu, including a market stir fry, amazing breads with carrot tahini spread, a finely chopped (and well massaged) kale salad, and even a cocktail that can serve as your green juice requirement for the day (with lovely Roku gin added in to create a sublime adult beverage.)
You might remember Waxman opened the original Jams in NYC in the mid 80’s. This restaurant offers a new and fresh version of his signature dishes, all served in a woodsy well-spaced dining room, complete with copious amounts of greenery.
Jams has been open for 6 years, yet this was my first time there. It’s always interesting to find a new place, that is not that new at all.
This Jonathan Waxman outpost serves liberally throughout the day with cafe service from early morning into the night, dinner Wed.-Sun., 5-11 PM and brunch on the weekends. http://www.jamsrestaurant.nyc/
