A Post Pandemic Reboot

A MAKEOVERGUY® Makeover

My cousin Jenny needed a reboot before she went back to work after a Covid layoff. At 60 years old, finding a job in a new industry can be daunting. Jenny called to ask if we would color her hair. She had already had it cut at a walk-in mall salon. I told her if she let me do whatever I want, I’d give her a free makeover. “Well, I like the length and think I look better in longer hair,” she said. We had a few text exchanges about giving up control and trusting her cousin before she let go. We lightened the sides and kept it darker on top to help give the illusion of more width to her face.

We gave her back a fuller lip, with snappy, bright eyes and brows. Jenny hates to shop, so I picked up a few things that I knew would work. She has a more pear shape with saddlebags. The vertical striping on the pants, combined with the wide V of a looser fitting top, helps create a balanced silhouette. Since Jenny has a longer torso, the high waist elongates her legs a bit. We had to argue about the bras until she put them on. “I don’t like a seamed bra; they make my boobs pointy,” she said. “TRY it, Jenny…”

She was sufficiently impressed that her cousin MAY know something about creating beauty. Link to Jenny’s Pants:

Meet Christopher Hopkins – The Makeover Guy. “The makeover: It absolutely inspires me. Improvement and response. Thrilling. At three years old I was obsessed with the hair of my “Tootie” doll. This miniature doll, packaged in a plastic cameo, had a tiny body and very long hair. It was perfect for little hands to hold and style. I spent hours on that thing, bobby pins everywhere. Later I graduated to my sister’s Barbie dolls. You could do more with clothing for them because they had full figures for which you could create tissue paper and Scotch tape fashions, complete with stickpin earrings.”

Today Christopher is owner of reVamp! salonspa, in Minneapolis. He done makeovers on the “Oprah Winfrey Show” among other media outlets. His first book, “Staging Your Comeback, A Complete Beauty Revival for Women Over 45,” has helped improve the looks and the lives of thousands of women.
