Icon Chita Rivera has left an indelible stamp on her friends and fans for several decades. She was a legend and a trailblazer born in Washington, D.C. January 23, 1933 as Dolores Conchita Figueroa del Rivero Anderson, passing away on January 30, 2024 – an actress, a singer, a dancer.
Chita received numerous accolades including 10 Tony Nominations for which she received two Tony Awards (The Rink-1984), Kiss of the Spiderwoman-1993), two Drama Desk Awards, and a Drama League Award. She was Tony nominated for her role in Kander & Ebb’s The Visit (2015), opposite Roger Rees, directed by John Doyle and choreographed by Graciela Danielle. Rivera was the first Latine and the first Latino American to receive a Kennedy Center Honor in 2002, and Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2009 . She won the Tony Award for Lifetime Achievement in 2018. She acted in films and on TV constantly expanding her career and visibility.
Her autobiography, Chita: A Memoir, was published in 2023.
