Binge Worthy Entertainment

Over the holidays we had some time to binge – streaming binging that is – and we stumbled on some great shows and movies that are worthy of cold winter day binges.  Here are few of our picks we think you’ll enjoy!  And yes, we do love those Brits!

Amazon Prime

A Very English Scandal – for Hugh Grant Lovers

We love that as Hugh Grant gets older, he’s getting much meatier parts that really show what a terrific actor he is.  And his co-star Ben Whishaw won a Golden Globe. It tells the shocking true story of the first British politician to stand trial for conspiracy to murder. Jeremy Thorpe (Hugh Grant), the leader of the Liberal party, has a secret he’s desperate to hide. His ex-lover Norman Scott (Ben Whishaw) is putting Thorpe’s brilliant political career at risk so Thorpe schemes and deceives until he realizes there’s only one way to silence Scott for good. It’s drama with some very humorous moments.

Vanity Fair – For Lovers of the Victorian Era

Based on the novel by William Makepeace Thackeray’s 1848 epic, the series beautifully brings the novel to life.  Olivia Cooke is fabulous as the social climbing Becky Sharp who will do anything to reach the heights of British Society.  A wonderful period piece.

Netflix

Dumplin’ – For Jennifer Aniston Lovers

If just want a feel good entertainment experience, this one fills the bill.  And if you have teenager daughters, granddaughter, nieces, watch this with them.  To prove a point about measuring up and fitting in, Texas teen Willowdean Dickson enters a local pageant run by her ex-beauty queen mom, played wonderfully by Jennifer Aniston, whose comic chops shine here.  The real star though is the overweight Willow, played by Danielle Macdonal.  You’ll fall in love with her, and the movie has a not so subtle message about being yourself, body image, and not letting others judge who you are. Plus original new music by Dolly Parton!

Schitt’s Creek

This hysterical laugh out loud Canadian sitcom is actual in its fourth season.  Suddenly broke, the formerly filthy-rich Rose family is reduced to living in a ramshackle motel in a town they once bought as a joke: Schitt’s Creek. Wonderful brilliant cast! Warning: You will want to binge through all four seasons.
