On this week’s “Bagels and Broadway with Valerie Smaldone” radio show, coming to you from the island of St. Maarten, you’ll hear a conversation with the fabulous Charles Busch. Charles is a very talented writer, actor and drag performer, and he brings his play “The Confession of Lily Dare” to the Cherry Lane Theatre. Busch’s newest play tells the story of one woman’s tumultuous passage from convent girl to glittering cabaret chanteuse to infamous madame of a string of brothels—all while hiding her undying devotion to the child she was forced to abandon. “The Confession of Lily Dare” runs through March 5. Also on the program, I’ll be speaking with celebrity couple and dear friends (who invited us to St. Maarten!) legendary rock drummer Carmine Appice and Leslie Gold, the former “radio chick” and producer of The Gong Show-Live. And I’ll be speaking with the executive vice president of Saffron Road, an ethnic food company, providing healthful dishes with a company guided by a social mission.
