Grand Central’s 15th Annual Holiday Train Show
This is a delightful Holiday Train Show display from the Transits Museum Collection and it’s free. This year’s show will feature a 34-foot-long “O gauge” model train layout with Lionel’s model Metro-North, New York Central, and vintage subway trains running on eight separate loops of track, against a backdrop featuring graphics celebrating the Museum’s 40th anniversary by artist Julia Rothman.
A Christmas Carol at the Players Theatre
Players Theatre on McDougal Street presents a lively musical stage adaptation of Charles Dickens’ beloved Christmas story. Grumpy old miser Ebenezer Scrooge finds a second chance to become a loving, generous, kind human being through the aid of four ghosts who visit him in turn one Christmas Eve, each teaching him valuable lessons. Will Scrooge catch the holiday spirit and save himself in the process? This tale of redemption and forgiveness captures the true spirit and magic of the holiday season for the whole family. About every 5 years we go to this show and are awesome every time. Head to Radio City Music Hall for a one-of-a-kind tradition, where iconic Rockettes dance, ice-skaters glide, snowflakes swirl, and the unmistakable spirit of Christmas in New York City comes alive in a show that’s a treat for all ages. The Nutcracker at Peter Jay Sharp Theater
Experience all the wonder and delight of Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker in a family-friendly, all-dance performance at Peter Jay Sharp Theater in New York. This one-hour production starts with the famous “Snow Scene” and includes the Waltz of the Flowers, Sugar Plum Fairy, Arabian Dance and more. The show is presented by Valentina Kozlova, a former principal dancer with the Bolshoi Ballet and New York City Ballet. The production also features dancers from her school, including several award-winning students, two (the Sugar Plum Fairy and her Cavalier) of whom won scholarships to the legendary Vaganova Ballet Academy in St. Petersburg, Russia, where the Kirov Ballet dancers train. Dec. 7-24. A Christmas Carol at the Merchant’s House
In December 1867, Charles Dickens arrived in New York City for a month of sold-out performances of his beloved holiday classic, A Christmas Carol.
You can join Mr. Dickens, portrayed by actor John Kevin Jones, as he tells his timeless Christmas tale in the elegant intact Greek Revival parlor of the landmark 1832 Merchant’s House Museum. Surrounded by 19th century holiday decorations, flickering candles, and richly appointed period furnishings, audiences will be transported back 150 years in this captivating one-hour performance created from Dickens’ own script.
Toast the holiday season with Charles Dickens in our cozy mid-19th century kitchen before the performance. Mulled wine and light fare will be served. Thursday, Friday, and Saturday only.
