LA LIFE: Dinosaurs, Theatre, Art, The Old West

Looks like it will be cooler this weekend, Tomatoes. Maybe it will feel a little like fall? Fingers crossed.  Dinosaurs are taking over LA with the start of the fall season for the 4th annual “Dino Fest.” For a dose of good theatre and a story of courage, check out “American Standard” in Santa Monica.  You can step back in time to the 1880’s and Old West California Ranch Life at the “Leonis Adobe Museum.” The Last Bookstore has an especially unique exhibit opening tomorrow.  And speaking of bookstores, if you are a crafty Tomato you might enjoy a watercolor class at Pasadena’s Vroman’s Bookstore.  Enjoy it all!

Till Sept 28. “American Standard”

LA LIFE: Dinosaurs, Theatre, Art, The Old West

Can you imagine the things you fear most being what sets you free? Well, Lilly Bright illuminates that and more in her original solo show “American Standard: A True Story of Overcoming Bulimia” at the Highways Performance Space. Lilly’s journey is full of hope, courage, love and transformation and is considered top notch quality Tomatoes.

Lilly Bright’s solo show “American Standard” is based on her true life story of surviving a near two-decade battle with bulimia and various “not-enough” demons, propelling her on an often comical, always poignant search for a cure, resulting in discovery of a path to imperfect wholeness and, ultimately, the courage to finally feel ENOUGH. I believe this story will resonate with a lot of Tomatoes in the quest to believe we are “enough” the way we are…And we are!  Catch it before the 28th Gals

Sept 21 – Oct 1. Loteria Pop Up Art Show

LA LIFE: Dinosaurs, Theatre, Art, The Old West

“Loteria” is a traditional Mexican game of chance, like Bingo, but using images on a deck of cards instead of plain numbers. Tomorrow Tomatoes can view all 54 unique and colorful images of the original, most recognized version of “Loteria,” as interpreted by Latin artists on the Mezzanine level of The Last Bookstore.

I love that level of The Last Bookstore and it is the perfect place for this fun and special Art Show. At the opening reception tomorrow, Sept 21, you can meet all the artists and learn much more about Loteria.  All the artists are affiliated with Cactus Gallery, a Latina-owned Los Angeles contemporary art gallery. The most recognized version of Lotería is the “Don Clemente Gallo” rendition which was introduced in Mexico in 1887 by the French businessman, Don Clemente Jacques. This version has continued through 3 generations with the original artwork remaining the same. And you can see it all Tomatoes at The Last Bookstore through Oct 1st.

Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays.  Leonis Adobe Museum
