LA LIFE: Honoring Women, DineLA, Books
Welcome Women’s History Month, Tomatoes! Since many of the women’s suffrage 2020 centennial celebrations were curtailed, the theme has been extended to continue through 2021. Women’s voices can never be silenced, even by a pandemic. Oh my gosh, you do not want to miss California Museum’s International Women’s Day. “Speechifyin’” is honoring extraordinary women speakers throughout history. “Everyone for Every Woman” is a concert to support victims of domestic abuse. The 3Ts has a special FREE event for Women’s History Month. If you love books, check out this week’s podcast. And Restaurant Week is back, Tomatoes! Woo Hoo!
March 8. International Women’s Day
There’s a lot going on at the California Museum, Tomatoes. You can join the museum and First Partner Jennifer Siebel Newsom for a virtual “International Women’s Day” discussion on the role of motherhood in society and social movements. And… you can explore the online version of the museum’s signature long term exhibit, “Women Inspire: California Women Changing Our World.’ You bet we do, Tomatoes!
The online “International Women’s Day” celebration and discussion also includes very special guests, Dr. Shirley N. Weber, California’s first African American Secretary of State, and Anna Malaika Tubbs, author of “The Three Mothers: How the Mothers of Martin Luther King, Jr., Malcolm X and James Baldwin Shaped a Nation.” Both guest’ achievements are also highlighted in the Museum’s exhibit “Women Inspire: California Women Changing Our World.” This exhibit was developed in collaboration with California First Partner Jennifer Siebel Newsom, as well, and features the stories of more than 250 Golden State women from the 1700s to present, who inspire change and reflection on the ongoing struggle for equality. Both the online discussion and the signature exhibit are so relevant at any time but especially during Women’s History Month, Tomatoes.

March 7. Everyone for Every Woman Concert
Rainbow Services is hosting a very special Facebook live concert, “Everyone for Every Woman,” in recognition of International Woman’s Day and Women’s History Month to increase awareness about domestic violence and the impact it has on our community. Rainbow Services and the important work they do is very close to my heart, Tomatoes, and I hope you will listen in.
The live concert will feature musical performances by LA based artists. Domestic violence affects people of all gender identities, but a disproportionate number of women and girls experience domestic violence at some point in their life. Rainbow Services have been providing shelter, support and assistance for women and children dealing with family violence for 33 years so they can transition to stability and independence. They have counseling, case management, parenting classes, life-skills classes, and several Children’s Programs. They need our support and deserve a big round of applause, Tomatoes.
“Moms Don’t Have Time…”
Listen in.
