LA LIFE: July Fourth, Invisible Man, FAD, Last Bookstore
Happy early fourth of July, Tomatoes! Wow, hard to believe it’s that time of year, already. With the in-person July 4th celebrations canceled, fear not, two of the very best events are there for you to enjoy virtually. “The Invisible Man” film available online is an absolute must-see, Ladies. I came across Free Animal Doctor, an amazing non-profit, and I’ll tell you why it is so awesome. The Last Bookstore, a fav of so many Angelinos, has just re-opened. Yahoo! And if you’re ready for your “what’s next, “don’t miss this week’s Happy Hour Podcast. As always, stay safe, smart and healthy!
And don’t forget, the inspirational and informative, Three Tomatoes Renewal Summit is still online for you to check out. So many episodes with important topics to delve into and learn from, Tomatoes. Watch now.
Grand Park July 4th Block Party
For the eighth year, Tomatoes, Grand Park and The Music Center’s 4th of July Block Party returns this year as a free virtual event with music performances, DJ sets and exclusive interviews with LA-based artists. A fab way to celebrate safely, Tomatoes.
Los Angeles County’s largest free 4th of July celebration and hosted by ABC7 Eyewitness News anchor Coleen Sullivan, has partnered with ABC 7 / KABC-TV to broadcast the first hour of this celebration on ABC 7 (7pm-8pm). The program will continue with expanded programming live streamed from 8pm-10pm on their Grand Park livestream channel. Enjoy, Tomatoes.
July 4th AmericaFest
The Rose Bowl Stadium has announced that it will transition the 94th Annual AmericaFest to a free virtual event so Tomatoes can celebrate by tuning in to Rose Bowl LIVE. Cello artist, Cecilia Tsan, will be performing two solos live from the 100-inch telescope dome on top of Mt. Wilson in honor of United States Fallen Heroes, first responders and frontline workers.
It’s a great way to celebrate all the heroes that have stepped up to spread light, love and positivity during the pandemic. So, it only makes perfect sense to honor them by shining a loving light on them to recognize their sacrifices and their profound courage. You can celebrate both our Independence Day and our Heroes. Super Cool, Tomatoes.
Free Animal Doctor FAD
OMG, Tomatoes! I just found out about this amazing nonprofit, Free Animal Doctor, aka FAD, that is dedicated to funding life-saving and life- improving medical procedures for the owners of cats and dogs who simply cannot afford them.
FAD provides a secure, guaranteed way to fund the animals’ procedure and the tax-deductible donation goes directly to the veterinarian and not the pet owner. It’s a whole new take on crowd funding. And they also host walking tours, like the Venice Rescue Walk Tour and the Runyon Canyon Rescue Walk with rescue dogs. Plus, they have dogs to adopt as well. Wow! What a marvelous organization doing so much good, Tomatoes. Check them out!
The Last Bookstore
Hear Ye! Hear Ye, Tomatoes! CA’s largest used and new bookstore, the iconic Last Bookstore, is once again open! And it is still filled to the brim with selections of vinyl, graphic novels, DVDs, along with Art Books & Rare books. That is very happy news for Tomatoes who love to read and visit this magical and whimsical place.
The Last Book Store is still one of the largest Independent Bookstore’s in the world with their inventory changing by thousands of titles per day. For those Tomatoes worried, masks are required & enforced for staff and guests, there are required temperature checks, social distancing is enforced, the staff wears gloves and hand sanitizer is provided. To me, these enforced safety protocols are a huge plus for safely returning for an in-person visit to this awesome & unique bookstore.
