LA Style Stories: Hot & Sunny, The Look
LA Story: Hot and Sunny
The calendar may say it’s Fall but here in LA it’s hot and sunny, making seasonal dressing impossible. I’ve gone with lightweight summer items in a warmer palette. I’ve done a subtle pattern mix with a vintage ochre/white floral stripe blouse, Bee Line Fashions, and a deep cadmium red sarong with pale yellow and olive flowers. My cotton sarong is a piece of leftover fabric from another project. Rather than tie my sarong I wrapped and secured it with my vintage belt, Gucci, that I’m wearing at my hip and towards the side.
I’ve also rapped the bottom half of my blouse and tucked it towards the side. I wanted to follow the drape of rapping rather than create straight lines. It reads a lot more casual relaxed and easy. My leather sandals, Sam Edelman, bracelet and necklace bring in those warm elements of texture that feel very organic to my washed down faded colour story.
style-tip: style comes from within not what they tell you is chic.
LA Story: Make it a Look
The iconic Hollywood Sign turned 100 years old in August! Some friends and I thought we’d play tourists and drive up. I’ve only hiked to it, so driving was something new and a little confusing. I hate to admit that we had to use our Waze app to get there. Even though it’s a jeans and t-shirt day, it’s never just that. My Mom would say, “if you want to look like a slob at least make it a look”. I think her message was more about self-respect and how one feels when they’re pulled together. It doesn’t take much thought, but rather a desire to look like you made the effort.
My overall style is creative casual and for the most part pretty straight forward. With that said, I’m wearing my baggy jeans, Levi’s 501s, with a screen-t, Suburban Riot, that says Wine, and sandals, Sam Edelman. The look comes from my accessories. I’m doing a bit of a 70s riff with the side tied scarf, DKNY, and the vintage handbag and belt, Gucci. Unfortunately, you can’t really see my gorgeous strand of pearls with a yellow citrine and open diamond heart, (my favorite piece of fine jewelry). I’m also wearing a brown leather cuff bracelet with a large Iolite stone. Nothing really works together in the classical sense but the total look, does.
style-tip: when we are true to our authentic style it always works.
*please treat your wardrobe well. many people worked very hard to get it to you.
