LA Style Stories: Street Life & Slip Comfy

LA Story: Street Life

My look may read as simple and basic (nothing wrong with that) but it includes some of Fall’s big trends so let’s break it down. Transparency is continuing forward and so is lace and the straight column/pencil skirt, Forever 21. The neutral khaki color is strong this season and it can go forward as a layering piece under other things. It’s also very inexpensive which makes it that much more desirable and easier to part with if it gets destroyed from multiple wearing’s. I believe in not investing any real money in trendy items because we all know that trends are fleeting.

Over the skirt is a very basic V-neck light weight olive green sweater, H&M. It’s a multifunctional piece that I can wear for any season and the colour is so chic versatile. I’ve styled my look with cashmere socks, Amazon, in a khaki tone and my crocodile loafers, Patrick Cox, that I’ve had for decades. Together with my black bag, Carla Mancini, and a few textured jewelry pieces; my separates come together for the kind of street style that I love.

style-tip: there’s no need to “spend” money on trendy items rather invest in “better” pieces that you love but care for them both like they are equal.

LA Story: Slip Into Something More Comfortable?

It doesn’t get more comfortable than this whisper of a slip in the palest shade of powder blue and white. This vintage beauty is from my friend shop, At Hanging With Hope Vintage. First, I’d like to direct you to the actual silhouette. Look at the point of attachment between the lace bodice and the skirt. It’s a sweetheart shape and it’s a pretty brilliant style line. Why? It creates the most gorgeous feminine shape for the waist and hips, and it mirrors the sweetheart neckline. The beautiful white lace is delicately lined for an elevated elegance while the bottom half of the slip is in weighty silk faille fabrication. It completely lacks transparency and is the very opposite of flimsy, so it doesn’t cling to the body like that of a regular slip. It’s as if this garment was made to be worn on its own rather than hidden under a dress.

I was meeting friends for some cocktails at a beautiful restaurant, Cosette, a hide away on top of Rolling Greens (a high-end garden shop) in Studio City. Because our weather is bright and sunny I thought I’d style my dress using silver metallics. Could these open high silver sandals, Nine West, be more perfect? In addition to the sandals, I’ve added a liquid chainmail vintage bag, Whiting and Davis, and large tennis ankle bracelet, Melinda Maria Jewelry, with a subtle princess styled vintage necklace and my medium diamond hoops. I love how the soft colours of the slip bounce off of the stones, the silver and the sun. And because I still have what’s left of a tan everything intensifies and pops! If I’m being honest, this simple uncomplicated look is my favorite of Summer ’24.

style-tip: mix your vintage and contemporary pieces for a look that is truly your own and only buy and wear what you love

*please treat your wardrobe well. many people worked very hard to get it to you
