LA Style Stories: White Jeans & Changing Moods
LA Style Story: The Genius of White Jeans
Do you wear your white jeans before Memorial Day? Growing up in my house – that would never fly but things are different today in our anything goes society. I like to think of white jeans as a pop of brightness like an accent piece or an accessory. I’ve styled my slim low-rise jeans, Rag and Bone, with a grey matte jersey blouse, SHE, that fits close to the body. Depending on the cut of the silhouette, matte jersey can be horribly unforgiving, or it can be like my blouse and lightly skim the body. This dense, flat fabric possesses an exceptional ability to absorb color, resulting in a profound depth of rich, intense hues.
My heather grey oversized jacket, Zara, builds dimension over my streamlined pieces while adding just enough tonal contrast to make my look more interesting. I’m using my black leather items to create a hard contrast of colour and weight to ground my look. The boots, Doc Martens, are streamlined like my jeans so I can fully expose them without distorting the style line so I get the heaviness and the edge. My belt, Banana Republic, is substantial in weight and the silver buckle brings a nice reflective quality against the jersey fabric. I’m using a large leather bag with handles to keep my blacks and my heavy items below my waist.
*style-tip: item placement is key to a well styled look.
LA Style Story: My Ever-Changing Moods
Our weather is all over the place and so is my mood… which inevitably guides my clothing choices. I’m in the mood to wear this black vegan leather jacket, Zara. It’s a perfect transition piece with the shorter length, the wider collar, and bigger shoulder. I like the contrast of shape between shorter and fuller jacket with these, Zadig Voltaire, trousers. Slim, cropped and flared pants happen to be trending for Spring so I’m right en-pointe. A few days ago, I came across one of my mother’s pearl hat pins and wanted to find a way to integrate it into my look. I’m using it as a quasi-tie-clip pinned to a vintage scarf, The Original Vera, that I’ve knotted into a tie. I love the way it worked out – it’s fresh and whimsical. FYI…scarves and bandanas worn as ties are another hot trend this season.
The colours in the scarf lead me to my navy/white stripe blouse, Chaps. The slight pattern mix, especially under the black leather holds the eyes attention. I pushed up the jacket’s sleeves and left my blouse sleeves unbuttoned for even more contrast. I’ve been really into wearing my, Doc Martens, as of late. They look heavy without feeling heavy and they bring the edge especially when styled with this beanie, Drunkin Monkey, and the jacket.
*style-tip: when you don’t really know what you want to wear, let one obscure item be your guide.
*please treat your wardrobe well. many people worked very hard to get it to you
