Miami Life: Newsflash, Breakfast Spots, Beauty Products Alert

Sunny’s Steakhouse

You are reading about this before most Miami residents—plans are moving forward to extend the Metromover. Here’s another newsflash:  Bon Appétit named Sunny’s Steakhouse in Miami as one of the best newcomers in the nation. If you’re looking for an affordable place to have breakfast, I have a great list of bakeries. Did you know that many of the beauty products we use are not regulated, and could negatively impact our health? Well, meet my friend, local attorney Marcha Chaudry who is trying to change that.

News Flash:  Metromover to Expand

Plans are moving forward to extend the Metromover from downtown Miami to South Beach. A friend of mine who works for the city just told me a story will be issued shortly.

Before I go further let me explain. The Miami mainland has a free Metromover that transports people all over the city. It looks like an elevator train. It’s the fastest way to get around.  Most of the folks in Miami Beach don’t want the Metromover expanded over the MacArthur Causeway, from Miami downtown to South Beach, because it will dramatically increase the number of visitors every day. Miami Beach is trying to limit the number of tourists because of prior noise factors and gang wars.

Miami-Dade is advancing with plans to extend the Metromover to South Beach despite a vote by Miami Beach’s Commission opposing the project. Josiel Ferrer-Diaz, who is the Deputy Director of Miami-Dade’s Department of Transportation and Public Works, said his department makes the decision.

Just for your information, the MacArthur Causeway is a nightmare to cross over in an automobile. What used to take 15 to 20 minutes can now take 45 minutes. If the Metromover eases the traffic, hallelujah!

Two stations are planned on 5th Street in Miami Beach, at Lenox Avenue and Washington Avenue. An extension to the Design District is also being planned.

Bon Appétit Selects Sunny’s Steakhouse as One of the Best Newcomers

Sunny’s Steakhouse just opened its doors in Miami’s Little River neighborhood but that didn’t stop Bon Appétit from naming them a must-visit new restaurant in the nation for 2024.

Will Thompson and Chef Cary Hynes, co-owners of Sunny’s Steakhouse, formerly owned Jaguar Sun. That restaurant was a big hit during the pandemic because of its outdoor space which had its tables under a giant banyan tree. Everyone loved it. The restaurant also made Bon Appétit’s list of the 50 Best New Restaurants of 2022.

But that was then, and this is now. The owners felt it was time for a “refinement” of the original Sunny’s. The new restaurant is now more year-round with both spacious indoor and outdoor dining.     However, they kept the outdoor courtyard from the original pop-up with its banyan tree. Everyone loves that tree.

The new Sunny’s Steakhouse features the dry-aged ribeye, pastas, and a raw bar. Delicious!

A Great Breakfast List to Hold Onto

Miami hasn’t always been an easy city to find an affordable place for breakfast.  We don’t have diners and coffee shops, but we do have great bakeriesWhen I recently saw a bakery list in www.infatuation.com, a Miami newsletter, I decided to share it with the readers of The Three Tomatoes because it will come in very handy.

Also, I just found out that the Israeli-Mediterranean restaurant chain, Motek, is opening a bakery and breakfast eatery called Sesame, located deep within an apartment complex in North Miami.

You can stop by for takeout and point to some very tasty, laminated pastries on the counter, like sugary pistachio croissants, bourekas, and a Jerusalem bagel with labneh.

They also have an all-day brunch menu available for sit-down service, which includes shakshuka, a fish schnitzel sandwich, salads, and more.

I haven’t met a person who doesn’t love Motek so I am sure Sesame is going to be great. Motek is not a cheap place like a diner but it’s more affordable than many of the restaurants in Miami. Plus the food is delicious.
