Musso and Franks – Hollywood’s Oldest Restaurant
When so many iconic and historic restaurants have fallen, LA is very lucky that Musso and Franks, Hollywood’s oldest restaurant, established in 1919, is still kickin’ with good food and an amazing ambiance. Filled with rich history and classic old Hollywood charm, Musso and Franks has maintained its original character beautifully without it feeling snooty. The waiters still wear the famous red coats and serve you like a movie star. Tomatoes you will feel like you just arrived to another era via time machine and might expect to F.Scott Fitzgerald, Greta Garbo or Charlie Chaplin.
The history of Musso’s includes decades of Hollywood Royalty – Chaplin was a regular, as were Mary Pickford, Rudolph Valentino and Douglas Fairbanks. Later decades included Greta Garbo, Gary Cooper, and Humphrey Bogart could often be found at the bar with Lauren Bacall. In the ‘50s Marilyn Monroe, Joe DiMaggio, Jimmy Stewart, Elizabeth Taylor, and many more, enjoyed the bar and the dining room.
Their menu features classic, time-honored recipes prepared fresh. From the original 1914 recipe for Fettucine Alfredo to their mouthwatering ground beef sandwich, steaks and chops, their classic menu hasn’t changed.
And their martinis? Esquire Magazine says it’s one that Bogart would be proud to have his name on. GQ Magazine calls their matininis a “triumph of clarity and craftsmanship.”
