New Year’s Eve in NYC
We know you Tomatoes will not be in the Times Square throngs. And this is our favorite way to celebrate the new year. But if you want to get out and do something different this year, let’s not forget that NYC has fireworks all over town. Enjoy a guided walk over the Brooklyn Bridge and pause to see the fireworks. Or head to Central Park for their fireworks display. And you might even want to join the New Year’s run/walk for all in the park too. And then there’s the peace concert at St. John’s the Divine. Powerful and moving.
Brooklyn Bridge Walking Tour
Discover some of New York City’s best sights on the Brooklyn Bridge Walk into the New Year! Celebrate New Year’s Eve on this incredible 90-minute tour of the City Hall Park area, including the World Trade Center Grounds, City Hall Park, and the Brooklyn Bridge. The walk across the Brooklyn Bridge concludes on the bridge to view the mesmerizing fireworks displays from Central Park, Staten Island, Brooklyn, and New Jersey. Get the details.
St. John the Devine’s New Year’s Eve Concert for Peace
Founded by Leonard Bernstein in 1984, the annual New Year’s Eve Concert for Peace is a signature Cathedral event. Led by Kent Tritle, Director of Cathedral Music, this year’s concert includes William Boyce’s Symphony No. 1 in B-flat; soloist Sidney Outlaw joins the choir for Robert Convery’s powerful setting of Martin Luther King, Jr.’s I have a dream; and the choir performs make peace by David Lang and offers up the New York premiere of Wayne Oquin’s Alleluia. There is also music by Mozart, J.S. Bach, and special guests throughout the evening. And of course, the Cathedral Choir’s own Jamet Pittman leads the audience and invites them to join in with This little light of mine as we light candles to welcome the new year with hope, joy, and affirmation. Central Park celebrates New Year’s Eve with fireworks!
As we enter the New Year, fireworks will be fired at the center of Central Park, at Bow Bridge- Cherry Hill, making the fireworks visible from most parts of the park. Take your spot in advance and enjoy the night with a cup of hot chocolate. Get the details.
A Midnight Run Through Central Park
Kick off the New Year at the Midnight Run! Join the fun and celebrate with music and dancing (starting at 10:00 p.m.) as 2018 comes to a close. With a countdown to midnight beginning at 11:59 p.m., the four-mile run will begin on the stroke of midnight, as will a spectacular fireworks display to light up the night and the start of 2019.
