Roving in the Blooms
Our roving photographer Nicole Freezer Rubens writes:
With the vernal equinox, spring is upon us. Central Park is starting to blossom with recent warm weather kickstarting some early growth. I walked through the park to go to the Conservatory Garden to witness the rejuvenation as blooms begin their protrusion from the grounds. This 3-acre hidden gem at the north end of Central Park at 104th and Fifth Avenue, originally opened in 1937. The Italian Garden is currently closed for restoration but the French and English Gardens are showing signs of growth with bright buds beginning to peak through the earth.
The excitement in seeing the hints of the flora that lies ahead of me, caused me to notice every florist shop on my way home, and tune into the glorious colors and beauty that await us. Once the growth in the Conservatory Garden catches up to its cut flowers cousins and is in full bloom, it will become a true refuge for city dwellers. I suggest waiting a little while longer and then visiting the spectacular burst of spring that awaits us all in Central Park’s Conservatory Garden. Happy Spring!

The exhibition Breaking the Mold: Brooklyn Museum at 200 is a centerpiece of the museum’s bicentennial celebrations. Running from February 28, 2025, to February 22, 2026, it showcases the museum’s legacy of championing innovative and thought-provoking art. The exhibition is divided into three chapters:
- Brooklyn Made: This section highlights art and design created in Brooklyn from the 17th century to today, including works by contemporary Brooklyn artists like KAWS and Tourmaline.
- Building the Brooklyn Museum and Its Collection: It explores the museum’s history, featuring transformative artworks and archival materials that trace the development of its collection and its iconic Beaux-Arts building.
- Gifts of Art in Honor of the 200th: This chapter presents extraordinary contemporary works donated in honor of the bicentennial, including pieces by artists such as Derrick Adams, Julie Mehretu, and Alex Katz.
The exhibition celebrates the museum’s evolving collection and its role in reflecting the changing world. It’s located in the Decorative Arts and Design Galleries on the 4th floor and is included with general admission. GET ALL THE DETAILS.
The tomato behind The Three Tomatoes.
Cheryl Benton, aka the “head tomato” is founder and publisher of The Three Tomatoes, a digital lifestyle magazine for “women who aren’t kids”. Having lived and worked for many years in New York City, the land of size zero twenty-somethings, she was truly starting to feel like an invisible woman. She created The Three Tomatoes just for the fun of it as the antidote for invisibility and sent it to 60 friends. Today she has thousands of friends and is chief cheerleader for smart, savvy women who want to live their lives fully at every age and every stage. She is the author of the novel, "Can You See Us Now?" and co-author of a humorous books of quips, "Martini Wisdom." Because she's lived a long time, her full bio won't fit here.
